If we do the MiG-21 I will take the "ancient kit" place that Srecko did with the SBD. My '21 is a VERY old IMC model that has "battle damage" parts.

I kept a list of all the little pieces that it took to build the bomb trailer and it came to 289 parts not including the bomb stand and three-wheeled cart. The trailer as it comes in the Monogram/Revell B-17 consists of the eight pieces shown below:

Now, on to the M-6 bomb truck......!

I haven't gotten a start on the real building yet. I did get the grey paint on the cockpit parts last night so I may find a bit of time this week to start detail painting etc. I work evenings and am the chief cook :-danger at our house so I don't do too much building during the week. I'll be certain to post pictures as I go forward.

This is a nicely detailed kit, actually. The cockpit and seat look nice after detail painting and a few additions. The weapons bay has all of the main hardware either molded in or as separate parts as do the wheelwells. Monogram molded a couple of optional parts in this kit also. Two sets of weapons bay doors are included, opened and closed. Two different styles of the opening portion of the canopy, the early one with upper central framing and the later blown style.

All in all I recommend the kit. You can build a nice shelf model right out of the box with a little work. My project will be a presentation model for my buddy so I'll be adding a little detail to it. After all, he was the crew chief on the 1/1 version of this particular airplane so he'll remember where everything goes and what it looks like. I must warn you that this is a BIG airplane in 1/48th scale--if you build one it'll take up a lot of space when finished!

Yes, but it looked so lonely sitting back in the background! :) Now it feels "wanted" again.....!

Thanks!

I'm waiting to weather the trailer depending upon whether I will display it in some type of diorama setting. I've got a couple of ideas floating around in my head that might be interesting. I've been thinking about buying a Tamiya 2 1/2 ton GMC truck and converting it to a Chevy M-6 bomb truck, the perfect companion for the trailer.

Incidentally, the bomb stands were shipped to the combat zones strapped to the trailers as a set.

Between other projects this weekend I got a start on the Dart. Not much, mind you, but the cockpit parts are painted and some trial fitting is going on. Here are the three biggest parts of the model laid out so you can see how Monogram engineered the kit, followed by a picture of how everything is assembled:

I built one of these in the later eighties when the kit was introduced. It seems that the mold (or the machinery) isn't quite as precise as it was twenty-odd years ago. There is a fair amount of flash, especially on the weapons bay and wheelwell parts. It's not that hard to deal with but this definitely isn't a Tamiya-quality model. It'll still build into a very nice model with a little effort.

I've done very little on this project lately. It looked sad sitting there gathering dust :-help at the back of the workbench, so I decided to do something to it tonight. I glued the right wing halves together--the first large section to be permanently assembled. I slid the flap into place and taped the cowlings on for show, and you can just make out the aluminum color of the wheelwell. Also the two small vents for the oil coolers can be seen as bright silver squares on the nacelles. Making those little exhaust vents was problematic, and it took a trip to the model car spares boxes to find the proper grilles to make the louvers from.

Perhaps I will get the other wing assembled soon and move back to the fuselage, where there is still MUCH work to be done........ :-roll

I must say this is something I'm going to watch closely. Y'all may get me to build a WWI machine with all these excellent threads to look at.

I am in the process of rearranging my display case and decided to place my two SBD models together for a picture. The 1/72 one is from Hasegawa.

I neglected to put up a photo of the finished bomb trailer. It's been sitting on the shelf waiting for me to build some bombs but I need the room, so into the display case it goes...... When I finished the trailer I went ahead and built a bomb stand and hand cart. The stands were sometimes used to hold the bomb while the fins and fuses were installed, and the hand cart fits into the stand to transport the bomb to the airplane. The hand carts were also quite handy for other uses, including changing radiators on P-51s.

I've got an F-16 in storage, Sall! I also have an F-16-equipped Air National Guard unit right up the street from my work hangar in Tulsa, so reference material shouldn't be a problem for me. :-cool Y'all just say the word and I'll find a decal sheet.

Sall, I could do the F-16 from a kit in my collection.

From No.1's list I could do the Me 262, F-84G or F, and an ancient MiG-21.

I like the idea of the CR.42 that Profa suggested but I'd actually have to buy that kit in order to do the build. So far I've been trying to build my unfinished stuff before buying new ones, but a CR.42 is a favorite. The same for the Dewoitine 500 series--I'd be tempted to find one of those, also.

It's called quality! :-clap

You're correct on that, Sall!

I must confess a secret belief of mine--I'm not all that fond of acrylics. :-paper I grew up with zinc chromate primer, lacquer and Imron paint and using water as a reducer just never seemed to make sense.......but I'm slowly learning to adapt.

I was so VERY happy when I pried the lid off the first tin and smelled that familiar odor! :-love I've got a couple dozen Humbrol tins that are of the same vintage and I suspect they'll all be good to use. The thing that impressed me most was that the two I've already used were some that had been opened in the past, the last time in the mid-eighties. Great stuff!!!!
