Aircraft Modeling / Re: What will I have to build this year?
« on: July 31, 2012, 12:54:24 AM »
I don't know the Parts PE set, but the D.520 is a dream to build, absolutely hassle-free... I've built mine using the Eduard Zoom set and that was it... Take a look at my Facebook album... :-ok

Thanks, mate!! :-obey

What's more likely: a faded, sooty black or dark gray?

So, no light blue undersurfaces. Would it be a fair guess that only the lower part of the yellow rear fuselage stripes were left uncovered?

Any other suggestion? :-jump

Always liked that version!! ;)

Hey, guys...

Does anybody here has any pics or more info about this Il-2? :-help

I'm thinking about doing my AM kit with this finish and markings, but I'd like to know if it is correct... It's an Errormaster Decals sheet, after all... :-cool

Thanks in advance, cheers from Brazil...

Sergio :)

From my seat here in far away Brazil, I'd  like to add my 2 cents to the discussion...

This is a modeling forum, composed of people from many countries, with different cultural, historical and political backgrounds. What gets everybody together here is the passion they share for aircraft and modeling, in spite of all the differences. Although we build models of real subjects, I think that we must check reality at the door, together with things that can disturb this place: politics, law and so own. As long as what we do here doesn't harm anyone, I think we can be a little more tolerant.

So the UN and NATO adopted the provisional name of  former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM)? IMHO, I don't see "provisional" as final, official, legal or the gospel. And does anyone here really care, from a modeling viewpoint, which name is used? Will it make the model better or worse? My vote: leave political, religious and other bothering real world ideas at he door, they have no place here... ;)

Now gimme a beer... Everyone can have a cold one, too, I'm buying... ;)

My first guess would be an orange rudder... But I've found a profile of a Dutch P-40 with white rudder, fuselage and wing bands, so I'm stuck...

Another  possibility, however remote, is that the rudder was slightly turned in the pic - thus reflecting more light and looking lighter than the rest of the cammo. What do you think about that? :-think

Cheers from Brazil,

Sergio :)

I can wait and so does the kit... It's in the box since 2005 or so... :-green

I have almost 30 kits in various stages and many of them are closer to be finished than the Dog Sabre, no hurry...

Sergio :)

Dude, I have a nice set of 1/48 Yugoslavian national insignia. But it's one chance in a million that they're the right size, they're for an Il-2... :(

As for the stencils, I would take the risk and use the kit's decals... Almost no one will take the trouble of reading letters 0,3 mm high to check if they are in the right language...  :-green

Sergio :)

I'll take another look at the Greek bird... But I'd really like to do one in gray/green cammo... I already have lots of models that will be finished with the SEA scheme... :(

Thanks, anyway...

Sergio :)

Hey guys...

I have the nice Revell AG F-86D Dog Sabre kit in 1/48. I like Natural Metal finishes, but I use acrylics and I still haven't found an acrylic paint that gives a realistic look. Some friends told me that the Silvers in the Vallejo line are very good, but they're kinda hard to find in Brazil.

So, I always try to find attractive paint schemes for the planes I won't risk doing in NMF... In the case of the Sabre Dog, my first option was an interesting Danish plane in overall green... But a guy from Denmark told me they were painted in green only when used as decoys... When in operation, they were left unpainted... :-wall

So my other options of camouflaged F-86Ds were Yugoslavia and Greece. Of these two, my preference is for the first and I think I'm in the right place to ask the questions below: :-obey

- As I mentioned before, my kit is the German boxing, it comes with the brake-chute housing. One of the few pictures I found show the Yugoslavian birds had it. Is there any other modification necessary to build my kit as an Yugoslavian Dog Sabre?
- The gray/green cammo scheme: was it wrap-around style or a third color/shade was used on the undersurfaces?
- Can someone help me with accurate cammo schemes and color references?
- The stencils: were they in English?
- Which decal sets do you recommend me?

I think that's it for now... :-red

Here's the latest pic I found, on Wikipedia:

Cheers and thanks in advance!!

Incredible work, Mr. No.1... As we say here "DUCA!!"

That's an untranslatable and indecent Brazilian slang expressing AWE... ;)
