If you ever see fit, I'd very much enjoy a Mk. II profile in the future. I've got a plan to build a radial engined Lancaster from the Tamiya 1/48th kit......someday in the future.
I sprayed the white with my trusty Badger 350 that is about thirty years old. I was painting something else and just slapped the paint on this at the same time. I masked it off in a big hurry with the first thing I could find--it happened to be low-sticky masking tape. It does look like I'm using battery acid for paint, doesn't it! (My finishing airbrush is a Paasche but I was priming with the Badger today and was too lazy to clean both of them.)
The kit is both simple and well-designed with regard to the interior sections. The cockpit looks like it could use more detail at first glance, but the 1/1 version wasn't too "busy" either. The moldmakers even did a pretty good job of hiding the ejector pin marks or made them easy to repair.
One item I wish they had made an option is closed speedbrakes. The kit provides both brakes molded to the hinge point--it makes for simple assembly but more work if you wish to close them.
Yes, I agree. We can use the group projects as a fun way to "compete" with each other in a fun, relaxing way with no pressure.
Sall, do as I did with the SBD build--pick a subject and offer it up as a Group Build thread. If we end up with ten modelers in the project or only one it will still be of interest to all, if only to watch. In theory we could have two or three groups going at once that appealed to a couple of us in each variety of aircraft being modeled.
So you have a full time job just to get in order work on early B-17 kit
I've been ignoring the B-17 for a while, haven't I? Once I started on the rear fuselage I ran out of energy (enthusiasm). Doing the group builds and finishing the little trailer on this thread have been good distractions from the "big" project. I probably won't work on the bomb truck or the Cletrac tug until I get more done on the Fortress.
I broke down this morning and ordered a Tamiya GMC ten-wheel truck. I'll convert it to a Chevrolet M-6 bomb truck just like this one: The airplane is Devilish Snooks and the photo was taken at the 40th Bomb Group (VH) base at Chakulia, India in '44.
The truck and bomb trailers were used as a set and my trailer looks lonely sitting by itself.
Even I could build this biplane as there isn't too much rigging to be done! My only attempts at biplanes gave me a headache--I really enjoy watching you folks add all those flying wires.
A bit of progress on the Dart. After cleaning up the majority of the extra flash on some of the parts trees the interior green and cockpit grey went on this morning. If you ever build one of these kits don't forget to paint the green on the speedbrake well under the rudder.
