Thanks Profa! Like training wheels on a bicycle!!!!!! :-help :)

Honestly speaking, I built a Hawk SPAD XIII many, many years ago. It was actually rather fun to rig for a novice like me, but until I started on LetLetLet I didn't have a desire to build another biplane. Now I think I need a CR.32 or CR.42 to practice on! :-ok

I really admire this old style kits with a lot of details in relief which is perfect to be painted and decorated by brush :))

I do too. I used the "paint and scrape" method on many of the buttons and gauges of this one since the detail has lots of relief. For those who haven't tried it, simply spray the panels white, let it dry, then spray it again with black. The final step is to carefully scrape or sand the black off of the raised buttons and instruments and the white will start to show. Some red for guarded switches and yellow where needed. The final step is to drop a tiny bit of clear gloss into the guage faces to simulate the lenses. On this panel there are two large screens for the radar and forward scanner and I simply painted the blank screens in gloss black. It wouldn't fly at the competition level, but for this model it will suffice.

The cockpit is nearing the stage when I can assemble it to be set aside for later installation into the upper fuselage half. On this model the instrument panel is attached to the fuselage opening and the cockpit tub is glued in afterward.

We went for a drive this afternoon and shot these pictures of two M-110s less than forty miles from home. The first two pictures are of one gun and the other two are from another location.

Most of these guns I've seen on display have the spades stowed in the raised position, but these two near us have them lowered. Each of the display machines I've seen also have the long barrel with muzzle brake.

Thanks, everyone.  :-flo

I must say that the camouflage is a "best-guess" at what it should have looked like. I found some profiles and three-views of other RHAF aircraft and used the basic pattern for this model. I enjoyed doing it this way as it is something different, but it still doesn't exactly represent history, just my interpretation of a historical event. I usually don't care to speculate on military models, but this airplane was so unusual that I did it anyway. :-roll If I ever find some really good photos of this ship I will definitely correct my mistakes. Until then, I'll put it on the shelf and dust it now and then!

After doing some research on the Hungarian Air Force for this project I find the need for a Reggiane Re.2000 kit........ :-love

I have a headache thinking about the rigging and I'm far, far, away!  :-eek Just last evening I strung the antenna wire on the Il 2 project and it made me think of this thread.

I can't read it either, but the third page shows two U.S.-designed howitzers, the M-110 and M-109.

We have a lot of the early version of the M-110s at various Veteran's Memorials in my area.

Here is the finished Il 2 from my workbench. It depicts the Hungarian-captured machine rebuilt from two damaged airplanes and test-flown by the RHAF. The references I had (not much more than the Wings Palette line drawing and a couple of web discussions) showed the national insignia were hand-painted so I replicated that effect by masking and spraying the markings. From what I could gather the top surfaces of the airplane had been repainted during the repair process, or shortly thereafter, so the upper portion is still fairly clean.

I have another single-seater and am planning on a VVS machine for that one.

Thank you for the images. I always find it enjoyable to see airmen and the dogs that invariably found their way into the armed forces! I believe I just read about the wreath presentation in the book.

I still wonder about the black-versus-red heart situation in the 7th Staffel. They were the Red Hearts, after all, making it easy to assume the heart on the airplane would be red also. The color photo certainly shows it in black but it confuses me nonetheless. If I ever get around to building Muncheberg's ship I will make it black.

I haven't figured out the umlaut even with your help. I suspect my computer has a problem--the keyboard operator. :-think

Letipapa, you neglected my true title--the tortoise of model building! :-paper I'm so slow on this project that I may not finish for another year. Or two. Or......? Seriously, THANK YOU for the enthusiasm though I'm not worthy of such comments. :-flo

It's gray and rainy here in Oklahoma this morning, too. Good modeling weather for me! Perhaps some more progress today after I drink my coffee and finish up some other work.

Thanks, Letipapa! :-ok I actually do have those images but I'm quite glad you posted them for the crew. My friend, Mike, was crew chief on '074 at the time of the flyby pictures and has a large original print of that four-ship hanging at his home.

'074 was delivered from Convair to the 438th FIS in 1960 and then she went on to the 49th inventory in 1968. The 438th moved from Kincheloe to Griffiss AFB just before the change of designation and she stayed at Griffiss until retirement.

I am right now reading JG 26 Top Guns of the Luftwaffe by Donald Caldwell and just finished the chapter on 7 Staffel's adventures in the Mediterranean. This brings a question--does anyone here have a photo or line drawing of Joachim Muncheberg's airplane from this time?

And a second question--how in the *$&#@_*! can I type an umlaut on my silly American keyboard!? :-kr I've looked all over but can't make it appear when I type replies. I'm 94% of German ancestry and I'm embarrassed that my typing doesn't reflect it........... :-red My German teacher and my uncles and aunts who tried to teach me the language are probably rolling in their graves now.

Keep up the great artwork and information!
