I'm with Paul--that is a beautiful design. Can't wait for more!

Well done, and a nice touch to show the 1/1 photo as reference for us.

Another great subject!
I once knew a gentleman (now deceased) who was in one of the B-24s that flew the Tidal Wave mission. He still remembered the "radial engine fighter" quite vividly sixty years later as he and an I.A.R. were shooting at each other.

I have been searching out different schemes since I got back into building. Captured airplanes are very interesting to me. For example, I would like to build a Luftwaffe-operated P-47 or Spitfire. Another fun choice would be one of the German aircraft flown by the RAF or the hand-painted Fw 190s captured by the USAAF later in the war. In fact, I still may paint my little Fw 189 as the Soviet operated airplane that No.1 sent me a photo of.

When I first saw the Hungarian insignia on the Il 2 drawing I knew I wanted to build it, and I'm glad y'all liked it. Doing the research on the Sturmovik has gotten me quite excited about building some more RHAF machines in the future.

Yes, don't worry about hijacking, and I see you started the new thread for the Ju 188, Letipapa! Great looking airplane, in my opinion, but I have a soft spot for all bombers! We will follow your progress.

Filling and sanding multiple times can sometimes be boring but the end result is always worth the work. A perfect surface is extremely important on this F-106 since it will be in a very shiny Air Defense Command grey scheme. The 49th FIS kept their airplanes very clean and detailed right up to the time they flew them to Davis Monthan for storage. Mike, the friend who was crew chief on my subject, has mentioned how he and his crew wiped the airplane down and washed it from time to time.

Yes, good progress and the photos are just fine as far as I can see.

Today's installment is glueing the intakes onto the fuselage. They don't fit perfectly so require a good bit of filling and sanding. The top portion of the intakes and the refueling receptacle all come together on the spine and this requires a bit of right-angle sanding. The wing joins the bottom of the intakes and also requires some frustrating filling. This went on for most of the evening....... :-wall I'll prime it tomorrow morning to see if my problems are solved.

The halves are joined together, but I needed three hands to get it done. The fuselage segments fit really, really tightly over the wing but leave some gaps on the forward and aft sections. It's nothing that patience and planning can't overcome, but something to look out for if you ever build one of these kits. The seams close up pretty well so long as you keep them lined up while the glue cures. I used a combination of CA and regular adhesive to get everything joined up.

Now the intakes must be pre-painted with ADC grey paint (I forgot that detail.... :-roll) prior to assembling them to the airframe.

I got up this morning to a rainy, grey, cold day--a perfect excuse for model building. :-clap After brewing coffee I installed the wheelwell bulkheads in the fuselage and assembled the two wing halves together.

Once that was cured I turned it over and added the "engine" barrel to the aft fuselage. The final step was to install the nose gear and wheelwell bulkheads into the forward end.

I need to do a bit of filling/sanding on the wing leading edges and then it'll be time to join the upper and lower halves of the fuselage.
