Strange thing that I did not notice in forst moment that this is 1/72 scale kit, so I am happy to return to more regular scale I prefer from early days. Kit is very precise cast and simplen in form of number of parts. I hope this will be pleasant and fast build.

« on: February 21, 2023, 09:52:02 PM »
In 1925 the Aviatrest Central Design Bureau was established in Moscow. The department of aircraft building of this bureau was headed by Nikolay Polikarpov. Since 1926 began the development of a new fighter for Red Army Air Forces. It received I-3 designation ("third fighter"). On February 21, 1928 the first flight of piston fighter I-3.

I-3 was one-seat seskiplane of a mixed wood-metal-cloth construction with the non-retractable (wheeled or ski) landing gear. It was equipped with 750 hp M-17 engine (licensed copy of German BMW VI). Maximal speed was 263 km/h, range - 585 km. Armament consisted of two ? 7.62 mm machine guns.

During tests the new fighter showed good flight performance and it was recommended for serial production. Already in 1928 the I-3 was taken into service. Total of 399 planes were built. I-3 became the main fighter of the Red Army Air Forces at that time. In 1931 it began to be replaced by more modern planes, and by 1934 it was completely removed from the first line units.

« on: February 16, 2023, 06:27:38 PM »
In 1942 the U.S. Navy's Bureau of Aeronautics published requirements for a new reconnaissance aircraft for maritime patrol. Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor offered its project XSC-1, which later became SC Seahawk. At the end of August 1942 the company was contracted to build two prototypes and five planes for various tests. February 16, 1944 was first flight of the Curtiss SC Seahawk reconnaissance seaplane

It was a single-seat low-plane with an central fuselage float and possibility to install wheeled landing gear. It was equipped with Wright R-1820-62 Cyclone engine (1350 hp). Maximum speed - 504 km/h, range - 1006 km. Its armament consisted of two ? 12.7-mm machine guns + two ? 147-kg bombs.

The order to build 500 planes was received by Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor before the first prototype flight. The first entered service in October 1944. Totally 577 hydroplanes were produced. Thanks to its versatility (it could be used on aircraft carriers, launched from catapults or taken off from land bases), the SC Seahawk became the best American reconnaissance seaplane in World War II.
