Hawker Hurricane 1/48
« on: March 14, 2012, 05:02:53 PM »
Here's another of my many restoration builds. This poorly built Hurricane has been in the dusty barn with the others but I wanted to showcase the Scale Aircraft Conversions landing gear kit. So.......I've brought this out of banishment for rebuilding. This was first built in 1986 and is the 1980 Airfix kit.

I'm surveying many paint schemes for the rebuild and I'm pretty certain the markings will be of a machine in foreign markings.

This isn't the most highly detailed model ever, but the surface looks pretty nice after paint removal. I think I'll just build it back up with no real upgrades and closed canopy. Everyone needs to be lazy sometimes! ;)

It's reassembled and some filling is in progress. Not too much as the parts fit fairly nicely. I've decided on one of my "oddball" markings choices for this.......I can't seem to paint anything in the common schemes.

More filler on the wing root joints.

And the real reason for this rebuild, the SAC landing gear. The metal gear is at the top of the photo, the Airfix kit parts on the bottom.

Not good for Belgian version, my friend...
Belgian Hurricanes had fabric wings, not metal ones...

Did they have one British sample with metal wings?

Not really sure; possibly the H-39 with a tripale propeller - But it's possible also he owned fabric wings too, the photos are not clear for that

I will eventually build a Belgian example, but from a Classic Airframes kit, I think. This old model is being resurrected more to review the landing gear than for the actual kit. I didn't do too great a job building this the first time and a lot of the surface detail is rather worn and damaged.

Thanks for the Belgian research, Daniel. I'll need it when I find a fabric wing Hurricane I.

I had the airbrush out for other needs so I shot a bit of paint on this one.
