1/48 HobbyBoss Ta 152C
« on: April 27, 2013, 03:14:48 AM »
My desk is not as full as it usually is so I'll add this new project.......I've never built a HobbyBoss kit before so this is a new experience for me. This was on sale at the mail-order shop I frequent and so I decided to try it. So far, the level of detail and quality of engraving is quite nice!

The fit looks quite acceptable also--here are the main parts taped together for a test-fit:

Yes, I think this will be a very easy, relaxing project. This kit isn't as complex (no open wing and fuselage gun bays, for example) as the Eduard Dora yet the detail is adequate for a shelf model. One area of concern with this model is that the propeller blades don't have quite enough chord width. I have a spare Eduard wide-chord prop and will substitute it here.

My intention was to incorporate the Eduard PE wooden flap set you sent me for review but the HobbyBoss design would make that very difficult.

I think all the very last versions of Fw 190 might have had the wooden flaps but I'm not exactly certain. I've seen photos of a Dora that has them and I suppose the Ta 152 probably used "off-the-shelf" subassemblies also.

Some subassemblies are now assembled and painted in either RLM 02 or 66 and the engine portion in black:

The fit of all these parts is really excellent and this kit is a snap to build! :-ok

Slow progress on this one. Finally the majority of the parts are assembled and a tiny bit of filler was applied to the fuselage seams. As I said earlier, the fit of this is really beautiful. This is even more relaxing to build than the Eduard Hellcat is!

Then the first paint was applied after masking off the area that will be bare aluminum:

Hi mates, :-salut

Very nice looking.
One detail : I think that for a Ta 152 C-1 (standard produced !) the spinner is not good. Those with the hole where for prototypes only...

Cheers,

Jicehem :-wave

Thanks Jicehem--I'll fill the center opening. I am using a spares box Eduard propeller and spinner but didn't even think of this detail!

Okay, top surface colors are now applied and I'll paint the NMF segments of the lower wing when this is cured:
