SAM Publications – New Book Announcement

‘Air War Over Khalkhin Gol – The Nomonhan Incident’

Author:  Vladimir Kotelnikov

ISBN: 9781906959234

Format: Softback, 112 pages

The battle of Khalkhin Gol was the decisive engagement of the undeclared Russian-Japanese Border Wars, fought between the Soviet Union, Mongolia and the Empire of Japan in 1939. The conflict was named after the Khalkhin Gol River which passed through the battlefield and in Japan the battle was known as the ‘Nomonhan Incident’ and resulted in the total defeat of the Japanese Sixth Army.

This superb new book, and the second in SAM Publications ‘Air Wars’ series looks in depth at the aviation aspects of this infamous encounter and author Vladimir Kotelnikov brings to life the air battles, and looks in detail at the aircraft and airmen from both sides of the conflict, bringing hitherto unpublished photographs and new research into the subject and presents this in a fresh and highly readable manner. The book also includes over fifty full-colour aircraft profiles showing the camouflage and markings of aircraft from both the Russian and Japanese Air Forces, as well as charting the combat strengths, successes and losses on both sides.

This new book will prove a valuable resource for the historian, enthusiast and modeller alike, as it brings together in one volume a wealth of historic, photographic and anecdotal information.
