Creating a real-life robotic walker for the U.S. military is not an impossible feat, says Heiko Hoffman, robotics expert, HRL Laboratories, but cost could be $100+ million. If made like the 50 ft tall AT-AT (all terrain armored transport) of "Star Wars" fame, legs would need to support 1.5x the entire weight. Another caveat: modern laser weapons don't possess the destructive power needed.
