Hawker Typhoon Eduard 1/48

Hawker Typhoon Eduard 1/48

Typhoon kit from Eduard, demonstrate proven idea of the limited edition series- take good kit, upgrade with etched sets and resin and result is good sale. So while you are reading this, kit we talk about is out of sale. But no worry at all, it will come again in October, different art box and decals, rest will be the same.

Basic kit is come from Hasegawa and with Eduard power, it become Tiffy, with stock code 1131 and scale 1/48. Content of the kit is the basic Hasegawa plastic parts as well few rubbers (for propeller shaft mounting) and Eduard etched set and set of resin parts (wheels and exhaust). In the build, I have also included Typhoon upgrade set 48916 and also have provided Typhoon exhaust stacks 648 315.

Build of the kit is easy, no matter it have a lot of parts. This is thanks to the fact that basic plastic parts are very precise molds and Eduard parts are good designed, fit easy and precisely. Most of time goes on the cockpit interior, Typhoon have interior visible structure frames and many of the parts are fit on. Interesting is that Eduard provide small connector elements, which goes on frame structure. One detail I changed is instrument panel placing, Eduard propose to glue new etched instrument panel on basic plastic parts (sanded) but I use just etched panel without plastic base and it fit greatly. Note when place belts on pilot seat, to put upper one, which goes backward, into extended position, in later step, they will be placed on the top surface of rear cockpit.

From the moment I completed cockpit, I need just few hours to complete assembly rest of the parts and get kit almost full completed. To be precise, I spent one day on cockpit, and fourth day I start painting. Kit is definitely easy to build and precise match of the parts. I did not spot any specific problems and doubts during the build. About the painting, I choose one interesting sample, which served as fighter, not ground attack plane, and have black underside. Sample I complete is Hawker Typhoon, R8697, No. 486 Squadron RNZAF. Only doubt I have is about landing gear color, as I know, in most cases there should be underside color so I paint it black but was not sure about the landing gear struts.
