wow  :-jump great project No.1 :-ok it's one of my favorite jet fighter the first squadron (1st Fighter Group) in the WWII had operating base at Lesina Airfield, Italy  :) :-wave

American WW-II air ace Richard Bong was killed on August 6, 1945 in an early type P-80 at take off near Burbank, California. Flying a Lockheed P-38 Lightning Bong shot down 40 Japanes planes .

It is true, after that accident whole fleet of P-80 was grounded. Any image of the Bong plane?

Major Bong was killed on a factory/USAAF acceptance flight. The airplane was P-80A 44-85048, and I would suppose it was in the light grey paint scheme common to the very early P-80s.

Very cool! My fatrher saw a lot of P-80s when he was with the army during the Korean War. He
witnessed a pilto eject from one before it exploded.

I forget to answer... F-80C from 80th FBS, Japan, '50. This is machine from the early stage of Korean war, note total absence of any fuselage letters. During the service machine has been worn out and national insignia damaged on few places. Unit insignia flashes on tail in yellow.
