American WW-II air ace Richard Bong was killed on August 6, 1945 in an early type P-80 at take off near Burbank, California. Flying a Lockheed P-38 Lightning Bong shot down 40 Japanes planes .
-
It is true, after that accident whole fleet of P-80 was grounded. Any image of the Bong plane?
-
Could find noting! However, attached link gives an excellent overview of his life and the planes he flew: http://usfighter.tripod.com/bong.htm
-
I also did not find info, not even register letters or serials of his final plane.

Cockpit interior...

I also did not find info, not even register letters or serials of his final plane.
Major Bong was killed on a factory/USAAF acceptance flight. The airplane was P-80A 44-85048, and I would suppose it was in the light grey paint scheme common to the very early P-80s.

Wow! You are an amazing talent. In the two years I have spent learning and trying my hand at profiles I have looked at a lot of other people's work. Yours still stands out as the best, I proclaim you as the best profile artist in the world!
-
Oooo thank you :)) Well, you are not the only one who credit me as the top one but I have no sense for this, I simply work and this is it. All I know is that in many cases call me in emergency, little time and too much to work.
-
I forget to answer... F-80C from 80th FBS, Japan, '50. This is machine from the early stage of Korean war, note total absence of any fuselage letters. During the service machine has been worn out and national insignia damaged on few places. Unit insignia flashes on tail in yellow.
