And the French captured one South African Ju 86 Z-7 (N° 850, ex-civilian plane put into service with the South African AF) in Djibouti in April 1941 and flew it for about 300 hours with "Vichy's armée de l'air". It was later given back to the South African by the Free French forces...
All the best,

Good one!! My father said these (Ju-86P probably) flew over him in North Africa on several occasions, very high and the sound was unlike any other airplanes he ever heard.

It is possible that this is one of these, I think it cover operations over Africa (will see when book get published)

Great one!
How my dad remembered it, there was occasionally a sound of aircraft engines that was very strange and it took a long time to search the air for sight of the airplane. When they would sight the airplane it would be a tiny, silver or white-looking cross way up in the atmosphere. His assumption was that it was one of the Ju-86s and he definitely said that his guys were told the airplane had Diesel engines, thus the odd sound. As I remember it this was when he was stationed in Tunisia, at least it was during his time in North Africa.

Thank you mate for that info, valuable and interest for me :-ok
