In 2006 I did make color profile of this airplane but in a meantime, pile of reference material grown up as well my skills. So lets start all from the scratch :)) first will be F4F-4 and hope later will be developed ;)
-
Nice start :-cool Curious to follow it :)
-
Thank you mate :)) here is progress, not fast as well I need to look on so many photos of F4F version and for now I realized they have two types of access panels on port side, two types of cockpit canopy, two types of pito tube. And this is just this morning findings, will see what progress will bring. I know there is two types of panels as well two types of rivets... and I know how it will end- someone will simply pick up all this elements from my work, built in his work and claim as his achievement.
-
All access panels done as well one type of panels, now the other type of panels to do.
-
Work on panels are more or less completed, they do not look the same, so some adaptations need to be done in future. My guess that this is standard changes and modifications in production. Now preparing to do many rivets there and there is at least two types by size and two or three types by their density. Photo show some of those.
-
This is in-depth research at its best. Not known this before. Good luck with applying the rivets. :-razz
-
Thank you :))
-
So here is work for today- many new rivets done, two types. Now need to do em under wing and after that to do bolts for access panels. Access panel under the cockpit is removed as well I realized that photos I used as reference is reversed printed, this happen sometimes.
-
Tough but splendid work :-cool
-
Thank you :)) Now many of rivets and bolts done and some panels also add. More or less this part is over but I guess that some new will arise during the work and I will include them.
-
very nice work!
-
Thank you :)) this is progress today ;)
-
Nice :)
-
Some work done here and I need to add few more elements before go to shadows
-
Looking great!
-
Thank you :)) so, main elements done and today will start work on shadows :-razz also discover different way to fix aerial wire to fuselage... so project is more interesting then I guess.
-
Shadows :))
-
Fabulous development I would say!
-
Thank you :)) now step by step, work on details till the complete of basic layout ;)
-
Most of shadows done, just some minor one left to be done. Next big step is to do all external visible details, start from cockpit canopy, wheels, propeller...
-
Wheels on run today ;)
-
Looking great :-cool
-
Nice progress mate, waiting to see it done !
-
Thank you friends, will continue work tomorrow ;)
-
A lot of work just to add few details and need to do more, main missing elements are propeller as well cockpit interior. After that markings and final color profile.
-
that looks really nice to me. Good work! :)
-
great job so far mate !
-
Thank you all :)) work on propeller started ;)
-
Excellent !
-
splendid!
-
Thank you :)) and propeller is completed, temporary in metal form
-
:-ok :-ok
-
So propeller finally completed. It also included text on it, which is not on all samples, some have it and some not. Now from all elements need to do cockpit.
-
Cockpit will have some options to do. First at all, mostly they have one type gun sight but there is another one, with two glass plate. Mostly they are positioned in far rear position, behind rails but one photo show it on rails. Will see, I think I will do most common version with gun sight in far rear position.
-
excellent research :-cool
-
Thank you :)) it is basic Mk 8 gun sight, with two visions is reflective model
-
I think that basic development is almost completed and some adaptations and updates will be made in regard to particular sample airplane I plan to do. So next step will be service stencils and national insignia, I hope today :))
P.S. just note- I forget exhaust tube under engine cowling :-wall :-kr
-
I acknowledge that. You are focused on something and then something else is overlooked. Really nice work by the way.
-
Really looking good, mate!
-
It is completed now, with missed details. Now will see what will be first color profile, will try to focus on some of this aces:
Edward O'Hare
Lt Cdr Thach
Scott McCuskey
Capt JJ Foss

Here it is, machine flown by JJ Foss
-
Excellent profile!
Joe Foss was the governor of his home state, South Dakota, and the former Sioux Falls Army Airfield was named after him when it became the civilian airport.
