You have stop a little bit with this project?
:-eek yes I'm stopped... :-/ this week I return home very tired... I hope this week end to make some new update on this aircraft... :-green
I like so much this aircraft and I wanna make one good work :-love :-wave
-
Hi all :)
new update :-crazy :-wave
-
other update... :-crazy :-wave
-
Nice but do you have in layer properties something like Style- Outer Glow....
-
yes I have that style (I use english version of photoshop) I just apply this style... :-roll I hope is what you want to see :-think
-
In this way this layer have to be under the layer with main shadows and highlight and in final work use merge Visible [not Flatten Layers!!!!]. So set the transparency on some 60% and make a copy of this layer and put on the front of all layers but with removed Style and transparency 40%.
Am I becoming a dictator...

Mcdonnel F3H-2 Demon of VF-31 'Felix' embarked on USS Saratoga (CVA-60) in 1960

I have to check for the correct stencil... and put more detail... :-crazy :-green

This is a wonderful image, Santynus; 2 of my favorite things, a neglected aircraft and Felix the Cat :-green :-salut.
-
thank you for your comment felixdk :)) :-red
I make some update on color profile :))
-
Watch that nice panel lines... :-razz
-
Santino- would you be kind to place here one large detail of the panels around the Felix badge?
-
Great artwork my friend :-ok
-
thank you Mick :)) :-red
this is the section with the large detail of the panels around the Felix badge
-
Here we go- first I have note that too much of highlight spread around the panels. If you have used Style in the layer with panels then you have to reduce spread- never over 5 pixels. Also you need counter light. All panels have sharp edges and in many cases on the edge is formed line of highlight. Make it as you seen on image. Use Pen stroke and set cover of brush 15% and size ob brush not over the 3 pixels. Note- use airbrush.
Also miss shadow behind fence on the wing leading edge. Wing need more deep contrast. You have to no that this is the are which disappear in the perspective and as far is it that dark is it. Note now how it look like the lower wing area.
Missing point of many of aviation art is the harmony of the airplane with object on it. So to avoid plastic look you have to add on the surrounding camouflage color a dash of the other color object. This Light Gull Grey camouflage color include in my version a little bit of red- this red is included in the markings and need to give some shadow to make compact composition.
:-blah :-blah .. go to drink coffee... and you study this. Just to know- I am proud on you ;)
-
Very cool and very nice profile.
Respect man.
-
thank you bogsituacije :))
I don't like coffe... :-/ but I can study your tecnique No.1 :-green :-wave

Santynus,
If you need any references on this bird, let me know. While getting together references for my Sabres, I came accross a book on the Demon that I'd forgotten I had. It's in Japanese, but has good pictures :).
-
thank you so much felixdk :) all the help you can give is welcome :-jump :-wave
I make some experiment on my last Demon draw... I hope the aircraft look better
-
:-razz :-clap
-
Santynus,
Here are some images. Panel lines on naval aircraft seem to become much more prominent than on AF aircraft. Salt air is supposed to be healthy for you, but I'm not sure that it's healthy for an airplane :).
-
And more.
-
One more
-
Felix- damn good material!!! Santino... well you will have a bulk of work now :))
-
wow felix fantastic image :-jump :-tri if you can could you please send me via email this matirial inn high resolution? thank you in advance :)) :-wave
-
Great reference material :-ok
-
after long time... :-paper I update a little bit my color profile and make one new F3H flown by VF-14 "Tophatters" :-tri:-wave

USS Ranger, CVA 61
-
From what year are photos Srecko?
-
Late 50.
-
Ok thanks....i learned a lot about Navy fighter markings of the late 50s today ;) I made several mistakes. 1st of all. Never trust a single source :) 2nd Tailcodes of navy planes have not necessarily something to say about an attached carrier. 3rd i would never want to work in navy research center ;)
In the late 50s navy was renaming their tailcodes. Therefore the CVG-1 Wing went from tail wing "T" -> "AB". Tailcodes starting with A should belong to the Atlantic fleet, starting with N to Pacific fleet.
CVW-1 was originally the "Ranger Air Group", serving aboard USS Ranger during the early years of carrier aviation. The air wing also operated aboard all three carriers in commission at that time - USS Langley, USS Lexington, and USS Saratoga.
From 1946 and 1957, Air Wing ONE served aboard nine different carriers, including the first "Super Carrier", USS Forrestal, during the 1956-57 Suez Crisis. Between June 1966 and February 1967, CVW-1 conducted combat operations off the coast of Vietnam aboard USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. In 1975 onboard USS John F. Kennedy, CVW-1 introduced the Navy’s newest tactical aircraft, the F-14A Tomcat and the S-3A Viking, to the Mediterranean.
Until 20 June 1958 USS Ranger was operating in the caribbean sea operating from Guantanamo Bay. 20. August went into Alameda (California) where it was comissioned to the Pacific fleet. Until end of the year flight training off the Californian coast, in Januar 1959 Ranger went to Okinawa, to train maneuvres with naval units of the SEATO-States. On 27. Juli returned to San Francisco and stayed in alert status.
I would figure then photos were most likely before 1959 because AB is Atlantic fleet. If they were stationed on USS Ranger or rotating at this time i could not determine in the quickness.
PS:Sorry for off topic i couldnt resist to make a little research of everything ;)
-
No worry mate- nice text ;)
-
Some from German wikipedia. Note pic no.3 has still old 1 letter Tailcode.

I have been to that museum (National Air and Space Museum) about 10 years ago. I was lucky to be in Washington on duty for two weeks. However, I had a lot of time off. A great city to visit if you like museums.
-
Indeed. I was just one day and half, I spent all in museums. It is good that they are grouped, but, You know, there is a lot of museums and my legs were like I marched over mountains.Pity I didn't have more time. Still, I'.m satisfied I saw a lot. :) :-wave
