Title: Curtiss Shrike
Post by: No.1 on September 11, 2018, 01:17:56 PM
This machine is so interesting to me, it present milestone in attack plane tactics. Not much known an it will not be easy and I work on sample A-8 (as well there was entire family of Shrike attack planes).

The American version of the Ju 87!!

I always have wanted to see more attention paid to this airplane and am so glad you're working on it here. I especially like this A-8 with the inline Curtiss engine, it's very attractive compared to the later radial version!

This version is also my favorite and this is reason why I choose it. In general, it present milestone in aviation as well on this one was developed tactics of low level attack, this low level mean flying under telephone pole lines!!! And that was standard ;) And my progress for today is here, amny hidden layers can not be seen, but some elements are obvious, like glass.

There are a lot of things that stick out on this one! Lots of struts, rivets, bolts all out in the open and makes your job even harder!!!! It's looking great and now I'm going to have to find one of the 1/48 kits somewhere...……. :)

And with interesting history- many bomber leaders in WW2 did lass training on this plane. Just remember Ploesti raiders and low level attack of B-24, man who lead that, start military service while flying on Shrike and flying under telephone lines was every day standard.

Few more details and first illustration can be made :))

Srecko,
I may have photos of the A-8 painted for war games in Dana Bell's book of Army Air Force Colors. There are also a few profiles of war games camo on other types in that book. I'll look for you and send them if they'll help.
