Title: Challenge- SeaHawk
Post by: santynus on July 01, 2007, 12:05:17 PM
Challenge- SeaHawk rules :-wise

We will all cooperate during this project. Simply upload what you have done, work in progress and this is it. In the particular project everybody will be included in the cover of each other. We don't fight for life here, we do not make competition. No winner just nice friendly challenge.

This is the link for download the Hawker SeaHawk Mk.50 image

http://www.letletlet-warplanes.com/img482.jpg

Every one will get sample of this drawings and it is in order to keep it for color artwork only!!! Please do not to forward this drawings to any else [even from this forum] or publish it anywhere!!! Profile you made is your property and you can use anywhere you want.

It is not important how you will make color artwork. Goal is to be made in the 2D digital way but no problem to make it in oil or acrylic painting if you prefer.

Working size - in your PC you always work in the publishing size. This mean A3 or A4 form, 300 DPI. Here is presented in the web size, this mean 72 DPI 800 pixel wide just for the BBCode linked images

Good Work   :-tri

Thank you Santino for this nice start. Here I am- I accept this challenge and I will make it as oil painting. This background which you see is prepared for the other airplane subject but I have change my mind and decide to make it as Sea Hawk. But this does not mean that I would not also make one digital version too  :-razz

Just to give you some guidance: a colour shot of one of the Dutch MLD Seahawks.
'V' on the vertical tail surface meant it was based at Valkenburg naval air base near Rotterdam.

Valkenburg naval air base near Rotterdam.
Hmmm... not quite. Valkenburg is closer to The Hague, but to be more precise it's between Wassenaar and Katwijk.

In 1955 the German Department of Defence decided to purchase a total of 68 Seahawks for the German Navy. These numbers split into 34 maritime fighterbombers (Mk.100) and 34 maritime reconaissance aircraft (Mk.101). The aircraft were to equip the Marinefliegergruppen (later Marinefliegergeschwader) 1 and 2 and were to be used to defend the coastline and seaways to the Baltic Sea

In 1963 the Marineflieger began transitioning to the F-104G/RF-104G Starfighter what put an end to the Seahawks brief aera. Seahawks were officially disbanded in1965, allthough they continued to fly with MFG 2 until the end of 1966. Interestingly enough, the final Seahawk was delivered to the Marine after the official disbandment.

28 of the mothballed Seahawks were sold to Indian Navy, where they were also flown from aircraft carriers. India bought a total of 10 Mk.100 and 18 Mk.101.

Post by: bogsituacije on July 02, 2007, 03:07:11 PM
In spirit of challenge I posted this preparation for further work (still I dont decide which background to use that will be at the end.)
I chose to make british one. I found pictures on Airliners net like mfg.

Please, note that the Mk.50 for the Dutch MLD had as characteristic difference that it was fitted with a Philips UHF R/T equipment.
The aerial mast is unique for this version!!

I don't think that first work will be perfect but after this for sure will be more in action arts. Art above is good, still problem with dark shades, also problem with warping of the insignia but in general this look very nice  :-ok Fact is that this is work from "ground zero" not as many do- repaint of the image  :-evil So this is art  :-clap

It's coming along nicely, bogsituacije.  One nice thing about the normal side view profiles is that you don't have to worry about perspective.  But then, without challenges, you don't learn new things.

Title: Re: Challenge- SeaHawk
Post by: Metar on July 08, 2007, 01:51:54 PM
I'm trying another approach

Color Pencils, than scan the drawing to photoshop and then filter>Artistic>Color Pencil

at least I think I will go for another phase and see what happens
Title: Re: Challenge- SeaHawk
Post by: No.1 on July 08, 2007, 02:14:55 PM
Metar- first you have to make all colors on the pencil drawings and then go in Filter-Brush strokes... and choose which one. After that you choose Pencil filter in Photoshop ;)

Title: Re: Challenge- SeaHawk

Yes, it is a little bit incorrect but if you compare it with your previous work this is great advantage  :-wave
Title: Re: Challenge- SeaHawk
Post by: Metar on July 13, 2007, 11:47:45 PM
Dr.Lift,

I can assure you that when it comes to draw using only the hands your results are better than mine that´s for sure  :-clap :-clap :-clap :-clap

No 1,

I like it very much special knowing that's not easy to paint with oil paints
I don't know what you have in mind as final picture, but if you add the idea of movement
your  work will be graet  :-ok
Title: Re: Challenge- SeaHawk
Post by: No.1 on July 13, 2007, 11:53:05 PM
Metar- paint with oils are very easy!!! Work with water colors are problematical as well new coat can smudge the coat under it. Acrylic are also problem as well they dry fast. Oil- you paint shape and you the three full days to detail detail detail and make it as best as you can do.

Nº. 1

Maybe one of this days??
First I will  talk about it with a friend that paints with oil just to see the way he paints (live)
and then how knows   :))

Even though the Seahawk is one of my favourite post-war aircraft, I didn't manage to participate. I'm afraid you'll have to do with some airshow photos I took in the past couple of years:

and in formation with other navy fighters...

Hopefully I'll have a little more time with the next subject.
