I could bet that I have already this subject on the forum... never mind- here you are one free lance project which failed so I keep this work for my self. I hope that I will find time to finish it as well this is more then interesting subject :) Early B-17 :-clap
-
Y'all need to post that one on the YB thread on WIX Modeling Hangar--maybe I will pick up the modeling pace now that you've given me some inspiration! :-cool
Thanks!

Now or when I complete it?
-
I think when complete, or you could do an "in-progress" series.
Great stuff,
Scott
-
I think that best will be complete, and this have to be your subject of modeling, this will be full content :))
And... you are new on forum, if you get option to publish your model build in any magazine, you can count on the profiles as add on your model build. This make article stronger ;)
:-wave
-
Thank you, No.1, I hadn't thought about doing a magazine submission. I will definitely take you up on the offer if I ever get the model done!!! Once we get the real B-17 flying and get through the airshow season I will probably have a bit more time to finish the YB project.

Very nice, and appropriate that you posted the update now, No.1. I am hoping to resume work on the project in the near future as model-building weather is just around the corner. We're finishing up some much needed painting and maintenance of our home and shop and after I finish with that project I intend to start again on the '17. Perhaps this fall and winter I can actually start assembling the little bits into larger bits!

Thank you friends for your kind reply :-ok Scott- just take your time, your build is so good and it is worth some time to wait :-clap

I do believe that time is on your side :-ok

A little time today spent on this profile, started long time ago.

I happen to be working on the blisters for the 1/48th model so I'm going to shamelessly "borrow" your profile for reference. Good work!

This is best compliment I could ever get :-ok
-
Now all I need to do is make the blisters! :-roll

You have it in plastic sheet or you need to scratch it?
-
I'll have to vacu-form the blisters. The Koster kit is actually a B-17C/D upgrade with parts to do an E. Also included is a Cheyenne tail turret for later Gs.

Is it good idea to make them from clear material and then to protect it for the framing presentation?
-
Yes, that is the plan. I believe I can easily build a male master. The only difficulty is fitting the fairing to the fuselage and getting it to conform correctly. At this point I think (not certain, though) all four blisters used the same plexiglas and basic framing with the fairings being different for each position. I'd hoped to build one master and then modify the resulting vacuum formed parts as needed. Stay tuned! ;)

My God, Scott you are amasing. :-eek :-ok :-ok :-ok I am unpatient to see further steps.

I'll make it a point to show you all of my mistakes when I make those blisters!!!!!! It ought to be a pretty ugly process!
I poured a block of resin this morning and I plan to whittle it into the shape required for the master mold. If resin doesn't work I will move on to wood as a second choice. Perhaps balsawood would be a better option than the resin but I have plenty of resin here at home. I reckon I'll post the process and results on the thread in Modeling.

Work on basic layout development is almost complete :-flo Few details and it is ready for first profile.

Looking good!
One little addition--don't forget to add the tailwheel. Here are three in-flight photos from 1937 when the 2nd Bombardment Group had just gotten their new ships:

Nice work No.1 :-ok
the color of the glass seems too strong for me comparing it with the natural metal aircraft color... :-think :-wave

You are right about the glass, I like to play with various glass effect last time, some of them are not much effective
