This profile is in the advancing shading now. Much more have to be made. A lot of work on the cockpit and the exhaust pipes. After that full work on the all stencils and general position of the national markings. After that will make camouflage pattern and then first one sample will be made.

Here what we have now- whole profile is in the advanced shading and shape definition. I need some two hours to do that. This also include cockpit details and bolts. But something interesting to note to all of you who are illustrators or want to be that. On this airplane some panels are welded and there is one easy way to reproduce this. Make new layer above the layers with main shadows. name this layer somehow... like shadows [I name it varovi]. Give to this layer behavior and this have to be Difference. Give the style to this layer and style is Bevel and emboss [take attention about the global light settings during this action]. Take a brush, opacity set on some 40 to 50%, behavior Dissolve. Paint the lines and enjoy  :-ok After that just set opacity of this layer and this is it  :-blah :-crazy

The images have a Gif image over them, so when you try and save them, you only save the Gif and not the base image. A number of websites use it. I'm looking at doing it for my recce imagery.

2 x 109 F (ES409 and NN644)
1x 109 G-2 (RN228)

Only my local historical and technical interest. As you might know an Airbase of JG26 was in Köln-Ostheim. This is 3 minutes from where i live now. I first heard about this in the Biographical book about Ritter von Schleich by Darren Whiteside. I know this is a sensitive topic in Germany and not a many people i know are interested in WWII aviation history for obvious reasons.

And it seems that they have different cabin. There is no more small glass surfaces, but one large (after the front glass  metal ram, when we look the profile) that goes from left to right all to the end of cabin. Same is on the other side.
Is this a characteristic of late war examples too? :-think

RLM70. There is some info about the black spinner at the end of the war. For sure I know that late war machines had yellow or white propeller blade tips, like on the west airplanes.

Well we have a problem there. This way of overpaint have used on several know Bf109, not only from this unit. In every way this color look like the RLM82 but no proof for this. Just comparation with other images.

Title: Re: Bf109G
Post by: ta152c on January 03, 2012, 01:07:45 AM
The Fujimi 'J-series' of 1:48 Bf/Me109's (G-K) are good because they moulded every possible hatch/panel combination, so, if you have the right photographic evidence then you can (in theory) make a very accurate kit by filling in the hatch/panels and sanding smooth. They were horrendously expensive kits, but they have been re-released and are a bit cheaper now. I have their G-6, G-10, G-14 and K-4, which are, in my opinion, superb kits.

The Revell(Monogram) 1:48 G-10 is still a nice model though, and considerably cheaper, although it only has the large wing bulges for the wider tyres. You can make a K-4 from it though if you rescribe the radio access hatch in the new position, and fill in the port fuel filler hatch, and also move the antenna mast back.

One rare sample of the Bf109G-2/R4 captured in 1943 by British troops. It have two camera inside of the fuselage and behind the pilot.

Hi mate, :-salut :-salut :-salut

I'm sorry but it's a G-4/R2/Trop with only one camera (Rb 50/30) behind the pilot's seat. Her name was "Irmgard" painted under and forward the cockpit. Unit was 2. (H)/14. This plane was captured and repaired by the Americans. Pitot tube was replaced by American one. (In my book, ref. G-4/R4 was an error (non corrected because I was at the hospital at that time...)

Here's one I do have Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6/U2 (TP814 c/n 412951).
Photographed at Air Fighting Development Unit, Duxford, England, UK, 1941-42.

Hi mate,  :-salut :-salut :-salut

I'm sorry but the date given to you for this photgraph is not possible. This plane of JG 300 was captured on 21st July 1944, when her pilot, Lt Horst prenzel landed by error at Manston. With Skz NS+FE, she was originally "weiße 16" of I./JG 300. At this date most of the RV (Reichsluftverteidigung = Defence of the Reich) planes had a red band which appeared during November 1943. S/Ldr Falk flew her to Farnborough on 26 july 1944. She crashed during take-off on 23rd November 1944 and was damaged beyond repair...

Cheers,

Jicehem  :-wave :-wave :-wave

This have interesting free hand number on vertical.

WNr 166224 = Bf 109 G-6, not a G-14. This plane was captured by American troops in August 1944 in France at Nogent-le-Roy.

I based this possibility on the underwing fuel tanks being associated with the recce version. I may be imagining it, but there seems to be a small "something" under the fuselage right aft of the wing on the photo?

Great artwork job!! I see a interesting color combination in this machine. I like this kind of camouflage, so it you don't have any problem, I will do it soon. Not, right now, I have some (ok, ok, several) building projects on the bench...
I am planning to do a complete collection of Bf-109 from A-Z versions........

Thanks to share!!

No.1

I found this in my Mushroom's Bf-109G copy. As I see it is a Bf-109G4/R4 version, with external 300 liters tanks (underwing) and one Rb50/30 Camera. One thing I realize it is tailwheel cover in -G4 version, I don't see change on this in photo reference that you have. In your profile it is removed, so I don't know if you want to make this change.

Here, what I have..

My biggest issue is whether I actually can see the camera fairing on the belly in that photo. It's too hard to tell for sure if there is and I might be totally wrong about the recce idea. I'm relying on memory but this could be a G-2/R2 that's been field modified for the twin tanks. I can't wait to hear from others on this!

Hi mates,

I was wondering the same Second Air Force, but two things that confirm a -G4 version is fixed tail wheel with dust cover, and wheel well faired over. G2 version has retractable tail wheel system.
So, I think G4 is the subject, but we wait for more comments about it!!

Very possible it is G-4/R3 but who knows. To be honest this image was so attractive so I could not resist not to make this sample. And here you are once again puzzling late war machine  :-wall

Yes, I agree with you on this, Memitus. At first glance I was looking at the tailwheel opening and it looked almost like it may not have had a fairing over it. After looking again I noticed the boot over the strut. It just proves I should look harder before making comments!  :-blah :-blah :-blah

That unmarked airplane is really something to see, No.1. I wonder why no insignia...... :-think

Very good, mate  :-ok :-ok :-ok

It's a night fighter of JG 300. Maybe "grüne 7", maybe "rote 7"... or, as told in a German magazine, it was "gelbe 7" of 3. Staffel at Bonn-Hangelar during 1943. Another one of the same unit is known : "gelbe 15" with almost the same camo scheme.

I have developed a rather strong headache this evening looking at photos and built models of Bf-109G-10 White 11, Rosemarie. I've got an idea to build this machine, but the issue I am having is the Luftflotte 4 yellow identification markings. From the original photo I've seen it appears to me (my opinion, only) that the rudder is yellow but no cowling band (as shown on most models) is evident. Any help on this would be appreciated. I've got your profile, No.1, and find this to be very near the same idea that I have with only the rudder being different.

Thanks in advance!
