New member from Pittsburgh
« on: September 06, 2007, 11:24:17 PM »
Hello!

Sreicko was kind enough to invite me to join the forum.  He was not aware that I possess no modeling or artistic talents.  Please do not be angry with him.  He seems like a great guy.  I hope to make some worthwhile contributions and mainain my membership.

I am a retired salesman and school teacher.  My specialty was European History.

Thanks, guys.  I do have some talents.  I can Yodel (not well) and play the Tuba in a German band.  My wife says that for the most part I am useless.

Wingman;

No sir, I am not German.  My grandparents were from Switzerland (Aargau).  I speak German somewhat (Swiss) and can read it pretty well.
I live in Pittsburh, PA where there are many people with German backgrounds.  I enjoy singing in the Teutonia Manner und Damen Chor and the Mannerchor Helvetia.  I also play in a German Band (tuba).  Years ago, when I was teaching, I taught a beginning class In German.  Trying to teach Americans a foreign language is a daunting task.

When i was in the US in 1999 (Nebraska) my host family were also of swiss ancestry but they didnt speak the language. My cousins are also swiss. At least one of them. They live in a suburb of Geneva.

Wingman:

I am half Irish and half Swiss.  A very confusing combination.  I can remember how well my parents did not get along with each other.  And, I don't get along with anybody.  My wife says I am useless.  What's apoor guy to do?

I would be happy to receive any posts in German from you and I thank you in advance.  I have never been to Nebraska, or any other state in that immediate area.  I understand the terrain is flat. I hope you enjoyed your stay in the US.  I sure have enjoyed my trips to Germany.

Hi Leo. Yes i enjoyed it very much  ;)
I was in the western area called the penhandle. The State is generally flat and has large agricultural areas. However in the northern panhandle there are the Sandhills which are very green and lovely even during summertime.Scotsbluff monument. A rock formation which i had the honor to hike  ;)
