While the Albatros is drying I started a new one. It's an Eduard's King Tiger which is basically an Academy kit with a small Eduard photo etched sheet. But, as always, I'm not satisfied with the box so I got two more photo etched sheets with the model and a Brassin MG.

Most probably I will put the big cat on some kind of small diorama, I allready have some ideas but first thing first, let we see what do we have in all those big and small boxes. First the King Tiger.

Hi friends !

First step is the interior, after a bit of exam of the details of the fuselage given by the manufacturer I decided to remove them and make them all new. It's not to hard to rebuild them, and by removing them the paint is much easier.

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/albatros%20DIII%20Oefag%20Ljubljana/060620145186_zpsa2608740.jpg

After removing the details I started to paint the interior, and made a " wooden " lath from Evergreen styren to replace the originals.

Aircraft Modeling / glue applicator - Kapatko
« on: May 14, 2014, 12:49:59 PM »
I would like you to introduce one very interesting product from Eduard. The product name is Kapatko. Well, the name don't say much unless you'r speaking Czech..... It's a glue applicator or dropper. The product is made as photo-etched, I tried it out and it works fantastic. I tried it out both with super glue and modeling glue also and in both cases works just fine, if you wish to put a small amount of glue and with high precision this is the right tool for you ! First I thought I will need some handle to put the tool in, but no handle is needed at all. Thanks to it's material it's easy to clean with no damage what so ever so my estimation is that one pack of Kapatko will last for a very long time

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/130520145038_zpsd77d9dbe.jpg

For conclusion, this product is well worth purchase your own, it will help you a lot with precision glue application, only a name of the product on English language won't be bad for all of us who don't speak Czech.....

Aircraft Modeling / Remove Before Flight
« on: May 10, 2014, 09:52:27 AM »
As you all probably know I'm building an A 7 Corsair II

http://www.letletlet-warplanes.com/forum/makete-aviona-aircraft-modeling/a7-e-corsair-ii/

and I got this newest " model madness " and have the chance to try it out on the A 7 seat. The product is Remove Before Flight tags from Eduard, and the manufacturer says in the description - fabric. Well, let's see.

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/A7%20E/070520145003_zps78fb0b50.jpg

The content of the the product :

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/A7%20E/070520145008_zps5e9fbadf.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/A7%20E/070520145009_zps57eb3a2b.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/A7%20E/070520145006_zpsa88109b4.jpg

The use is really simple, just take of the tag from the paper, put it together with the etched safety pin and you are all done. And believe it or not it is fabric ! At first it look too big, it looked like it is for 1/32, but with the little help of dear and helpful No.1 I found it out that the size is just wright.

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/A7%20E/070520145011_zpsfe92c699.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/A7%20E/070520145010_zpsa1f9d351.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/A7%20E/070520145013_zpsdb29bb94.jpg

On the end, for this product I can only say bravo for Eduard and I strongly recommend the use of it, it is small but very useful update set !

Ground Forces / Tree by modellius
« on: May 06, 2014, 03:39:51 PM »
Hi to you all, I wish to share my three making technique, it's not all mine, just a few changes/adjustmens, basically you can find this in Adoba Laszlo's fantastic book Let's Build Dioramas, I tried it out and it really works, it's easy and cheap !

So, lets's start :

First you need a simple copper wire, all junk electrical devices have one  :-green , i cut it about 10 % - 15 % longer than the height of the tree would be, this percentage will be lost with twisting the wire.

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/26022012897.jpg

Then we can shape the tree. At first I recommend a photo of the tree until the first few trees, just to get the right shape. I always put toothpick in the trunk ( fixing with super glue without problems ) sa I have a place to keep the tree without touching it and I use this toothpick later on to fix the tree on the base

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/26022012898.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/26022012899.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/26022012900.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/26022012901.jpg

To get rid of the texture of the twisted copper wire I use white glue for carpenters in several layers

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/26022012902.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/26022012903.jpg

Next step. Putting a layer of toalet paper on the trung

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/26022012904.jpg

And another layer of glue

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/27022012905.jpg

And now we can make the texture of the trunk. For this step we need an acrylic carpenter putty and an old toothbrush. Just simply put the putty on the trunk and texture it with the toothbrush

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/27022012906.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/27022012908.jpg

And now the painting. We need only tree colours : sand brown, burnt umber and black. I use acrylics for shorter drying period. First a layer of burnt umber overall, then goes black wash and for the last stage dry brush with sand brown. And you don't need air brush at all !

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/27022012909.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/27022012910.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/28022012911.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/28022012913.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/28022012914.jpg

And now the treetop.....

For the treetop I use synthetic cotton wool which is used in fish tank filters. First paint the cotton wool. On this step you need an Air Brush.

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/29022012950.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/29022012949.jpg

Than you just glue the cotton wool to the tree ( super glue work fine ). After all is dry with scissors shape it as you wish.

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/01032012970.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/01032012971.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/01032012972.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/01032012973.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/02032012974.jpg

For leaves I use a NOCH product for railway modelers, it comes in a few different colors

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/02032012975.jpg

First I put the darkest shade to the bottom to make an optical illusion of an thick treetop. Leves are easily fixed with hair spray, or matt cote in spray

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/02032012976.jpg

Than you fill the treetop with a mixed color leaves

http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/02032012978.jpg
http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv347/modellius_senta/drvo/02032012979.jpg

And the tree is done !

Aircraft Modeling / A7 E Corsair II

Well, what can I say, I don't have enough started projects on my work-bench so I had to start another one  :-wall

It's a Hasegawa model, scale 1/48 very nicely detailed, look like it will be fun to build it, but first let we see what we can find in the box ( I bought the model second-hand on some modeling event so some of the parts were already taken of the frame but they are all there ) :

The model looks good, fine engraved panel lines, nice details, on dry testing all of the bigger parts fit very well, during the build we will see the rest. The brassin parts are simply amazing, very fine details, looking absolutely fantastic, the entire brassin cocpit could be a model for it self !

Best introduce of a modeler is to show his work, so I present to You my latest work, it's still WIP.

It's an Arado Ar 96 B of the Hungarian AF but with mixed german-hungarian markings, Klagenfurt end of the war

From the box it's possible to make both versions, A and B. The box and the content :
