« on: September 20, 2016, 08:11:06 PM »
Hi folks !

On the last weekend on September 17th Modellius modelers club with the help of Novosadski Ikar modelers club organized 16th annual model expo Masters Of Miniatures. Unfortunately this year we had very limited funding so the expo was visibly smaller than previous years.... As a plus a very talented painter from my hometown Recsko Bela had an exhibition of his paintings in the same time. Here are some photos, the pictures wasn't taken by me, had no time for it, photos are taken by Siniša llin.

To be honest, it the last time I was modeling a tough projects, one is still " on " ( Saint George ) so I decided to make some relax project in between, to get my head clear a bit. So the choice went on this excellent Tamiya kit in 1/48, but as always with a bit update. So here are the " elements " of this one

Aircraft Modeling / Ilyushin IL-76
« on: August 16, 2016, 08:00:52 PM »
Well, this one needs a proper introduction. I think you all know Nicolas Cage's movie War Lord, and it has a sceene in Africa when they land an An12 in the desert full of weapons. Well this actually happened but with a few differences,it wasn't An 12 it was IL 76 qnd not africa but on a little sport airfield near Dubai UAE.

Friend of mine who's in Dubai a few years now asked me to build this aircraft for him. The kit is Trumpeter 1/144 scale.

First I located all the doors and hatches on the fuselage which needs to be cutted out as well as a few small windows which needed to be drilled out, trumepeter gives them as part of fuselage in solid plastic.

Aircraft Modeling / Sveti Đorđe - Saint George 1/48
« on: June 19, 2016, 01:49:56 PM »
A long time ago in one magazine I stumbled in this airplane. It was an Serbian build sport aircraft, constructed by a Russian constructor V. Nestorov on demand of industrialist Svetozar Vlajković to promote his factory which was aircraft engine repair shop and aircraft parts manufacturer. The aircraft was constructed in 1926 and had it maiden flight in 1927. It was a small aircraft with only 6 meters wing span and 4.3 meters long fuselage.

To honor the aircraft pioneers of all around the world in my own way I desided to make this aircraft in " old school " scratch-build technique, so no computer, laser cuts etc but only paper, pencil, base materials, modeling knife and lot of sanding.......

As a first step I scaled down the original drawing from the magazine, transfered on to styrene sheet and the fun and games can begin.

First the fuselage :

I took a bit of a brake from aircrafts and started an afv for a change, it will be a vignete representing Yugoslav peace keeping contingent in UNEF on Sinai in 1956. The vehicle is well known Tamiya's Greyhound with Eduard photo etched parts, Eduard brassin 0,50 cal machine gun, Jordi Rubio main gun barrel, RB 0.50 cal barrel and Karaya 7.62 mm gun barrel.

The interior is great, no need for too much tuning up, Eduard gives all you need, only the wires are home made, at first step it's all painted in white

Combat Warplanes / halifax excavation
« on: February 21, 2016, 11:47:38 PM »
This is an old event, way back in 2012 but I think themes like this are timeless. A good friend of mine, Mr Karoly Mago ( curator, excavator of the Szolnok Aero Nautical Museum ( Hungary ), historian, a model builder, a great man above anything else ) invited me in October 2012 to an excavation of a shot down airplane, an Handley Page Halifax in place called Bacsbokod in Hungary. Of course I went to the location and did my share in excavation, it's a one in a life time adventure, full of adrenaline and excitement, an privilege of only a few man had to pleasure to experiance.

The history ( courtesy of Mr Mago Karoly ) :

On the night between 26 and 27 th August 1944 the RAF Halifax serial number JD-362 with polish crew flown an supply mission to Warsaw rebellions. The 6th German night fighter squadron was alerted and Wilhelm Johnen finded  the airplane and shoted it down near Bacsbokod Hungary. The Hungarian royal police reported : *near Bacsbokod one four engine British plane fell down. The crew is killed, they burned. beside the wreck next items were founded : 2 pcs of id cards, 2 pcs of maps of Europe, 251 lyras.* Ispánovity József remembered:  *I was 16 years old Levente ( a kind of police men but only made of teenagers ) and we were send out to protect the wreck. The peaces of the aircraft were burning for solid two days. I saw a many deformed weapons, machine guns a wreck pieces.*
Then a little twist happened, Bacsbokod was mainly German population ( 716 men were members of Volksbund and the SS ) so Dr. Zöldi Márton ( SS oficer ) took the situation under his command ( he had no authoroty what so ever, he did it all on his own hands ) the Royal Hungarian Police stood back, mostly to avoid an confrontation with an SS officer. He broke all the protocols of identification and burying the crew members, he ordered to throw the bodies next to the wreck and covered it with dirt, and he let the locals to take away anything they needed from the site. Nobody confronted to Dr. Zöldi Márton once again most probably nobody wanted to confront to an SS officer.... On the arrival of the Red Army  Dr. Zöldi Márton went to west ( never to return to Bacsbokod ) and here fate took another twist, nobody told the Russians about the plane in fear of retaliation. Bács-Bodrog  area minister reported on November the 5 th 1945 : * In August 1944 near to Scháffer Mihály farm  one British or US airplane crashed, after an aerial battle. Remains of 6 or 7 crew member were found, didn't know for sure, because of the blast the bodies was scattered all around, the human remains were gathered in one casket and buried in villages cemetery (this was an lie ) and all the documentations and id's of the crew were taken by  Dr. Zöldi Márton, an SS officer in charge for the region.* All of the witnesses claimed that the human remains are lying beside the wreck at the crash site. In 1946 allied grave identifiers went to Bacsbokod but they never excavate the site.
The Excavation Founding from Baja ( Hungary ) with leadership of Mr. Galambos Gábor made a visit to the site and after an surface exploration they identified the accurate crash site. In November 2011 to The Excavation Founding from Baja joined The Hungarian Excavation Founding from the MH.86 helicopter base in Szolnok and the cleared up an 60 meters long section. Theh founded 18 pcs of human remeains, piece of boot, RAF insignia and a factory plate of the aircraft. After getting all the needed permits they started the official excavation in October 2012. Lots of ammo and aircraft parts were founded, as well as human remains ( bone fragments ) which Dr. Magyar Lóránt identified as human bones without a doubt and dated them from 1944.
The Polish ambassador in Hungary Mr. Andrzej Kalinowski take over the human remains and they were buried in all military honors in cemetery in  Solymár.

The crew :

Jan Rodwan-Kuzelowski - sergeant major
Kazimierz S. Sorawka - lieutenant
Stefan G. Kleniewski - second lieutenant
Walaszek Karol - sergeant
Leon Z. Witkowski - sergeant
Edward Jodis - sergeant
Tadeusz Ogrodnik - sergeant

Aircraft Modeling / Yugoslav Spitfire
« on: October 13, 2015, 10:39:41 AM »
I have a new model on my desk ( yes, another .... ), Eduard's Spitfire Mk IX Profi Pack with lots of goodies, brassin exhaust http://www.letletlet-warplanes.com/forum/makete-aviona-aircraft-modeling/spitifire-exhaust/ , brassin radio compartment and brassin wheels. At first I glued all the parts from the box and brassin preparing for home made tuning as a next stage.

And again a great set from Eduard Brassin, an Spitfire mk IX exhaust. At first sight this update is great and will give a fine " touch " on any Spitfire, the fine detailed mold gives a lot's of opportunity for nice painting/weathering, all you need is some skills and lots of time to get it right.

First I give it a coat of Valleyo chrome, to get the natural metal look :

A Revell clear blue cote followed to get the look of heated metal, I done it hardly visible at first sight, but it will give a right result when it's all done.....

While the Albatros is drying I started a new one. It's an Eduard's King Tiger which is basically an Academy kit with a small Eduard photo etched sheet. But, as always, I'm not satisfied with the box so I got two more photo etched sheets with the model and a Brassin MG.

Most probably I will put the big cat on some kind of small diorama, I allready have some ideas but first thing first, let we see what do we have in all those big and small boxes. First the King Tiger.
