Aircraft Modeling / An-8 Camp cockpit
« on: December 24, 2011, 05:05:25 AM »
Does anyone possibily have any information on the cockpit layout of the An-8? I have a set of very nice exterior views, but nothing on the interior. The kit i would be working with also has no provision for any sort of interior either, so it will all neeed to be scratchbuild, which is fine, I would just like ot know what the layout was.

Aircraft Modeling / A mix of models
« on: November 24, 2011, 02:01:41 AM »
At the request of Sall :-flo here ore some of my previous builds

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i179/captianplastic/109done2.jpg

Heller Bf-109 1/72nd scale, built pretty much out of the box, even used the kit decals, which worked much better than they looked.

Mars Lander, this was  a very old kit, that was re-issued a number of years ago as a special edition for an IPMS national convention, I got this off E-Bay, it had a very good decal sheet with many options; I went for an old "retro" look of a 1950's space ship with the red and silver colors, and coulden't resist the sharks mouth :-ok

Here is a real odd ball kit; this Bristol M1.c was made by a company called Waldo Resin, they only produced about 1/2 different kits back in the early / mid '90's, and were based in England. The kit is 48th scale and just to be different I painted it in PC-12 as an aircraft that served in the Far East, the decals were pieced together from an Aeromaster sheet. The nice thing was that many of these aircraft serving post war often flew without their guns fitted, and since the kit gun was horrible, I simply did not have to use it :))

This is the Eduard 1/72nd scale Dr.1 built mostly out of the box, very nice kit, except very small. I had fun painting it as the yellow would have been applied over the factory applied camo and white rudder, so I used a very thin spray of yellow over the aft fuselage so that the olive green shows through and used a lighter shade of yellow over the white rudder.

This is the Bronco 1/48th scale MQ-1 Predetor. Nice little kit, the pitot was scratch built from wire and paper soaked with superglue.

Aircraft Modeling / Agama Paints Questions
« on: November 22, 2011, 01:05:42 AM »
I was wondering if somebody could tell me a little about Agama paints; I have never used them but they do have some colors I could use. I read the review on the set of French colors and was wondering how the acrylics airbrush, do you need to use their thinner or would Vallejo thinner work? Also, I assume their enamels behave like other enamel model paints, though they dry flat or glossy like xtracolor do?? Thank you,

Market / Part He-115 Photo etch
« on: November 21, 2011, 02:57:27 AM »
I am trying to find a set of Part P/E for the old matchbox 1/72 He-115 kit. So far I have not been able to find a set, I was wondering if anyone either had that set they were willing to let go, of if someone knows where to find one. Thank you,

Aircraft Modeling / FW-190S-5 Colors and markings
« on: November 21, 2011, 02:52:53 AM »
I was wondering if anyone had some information on colors and in particular markings for the FW-190S-5 trainer. I have a conversion for this aircraft that I would like to build but have very little info on markings for it. If anyone has some information on this I would be most grateful.

Miscellaneous Subjects / C.S.S. David
« on: November 18, 2011, 05:00:08 AM »
I though I  would post this here, please forgive me if this is out of place. As I mentioned in my introduction I like to build different types of models, and I also like to try to sample kits from different manufactures. This is the C.S.S. David, a torpedo boat from the American Civil War. It is a kind of interesting subject, and the kit is made by Cottage Industry Models. It is resin and white metal. As the real boat was not painted, this will be a good exercise in painting wood grain.  If it is not out of place, and you guys are interested in seeing how it goes, I would like to build it, if it does not fit, that is okay too.

Ground Forces / A Bit Different
« on: November 16, 2011, 01:50:09 AM »
This is a project I have worked on, and really need to finish, it will only take a day or two to finish, but I keep putting it off. This is a resin cast E-25 tank that is partly submerged. It was a piece that was used at a weathering seminar I went to. All the weathering effects were done with AK products and some pigments I had. The water was done with a Woodland Scenics water kit. First time I have done many of these techniques, so it could be better, but I am pretty happy with it anyway.

Aircraft Modeling / G.A.C. Hotspur
« on: November 13, 2011, 02:03:40 PM »
Since this is my first build here, I though I would start with something rather simple so as to not embarrass myself too badly if it goes wrong :)!

This is the old Frog / Novo kit of the Hotspur glider. The Hotspur was designed as a light assult glider which could hold 8 troops. It was soon deemed impractical as it was recognized that landing so few troops per glider was less than ideal, and so the Hotspur was used as a training aircraft for future Horsa and Hamilcar glider pilots.

This is a plane I have wanted to model for some time and a friend of mine had the kit in his collection and was kind enough to give it to me to build. This is a Russian molding of the kit obtained many years ago in a bag, no decals are included. It is interesting to not that the surface of the plastic is very greasy, almost like a wax on the plastic, I have not noticed this with later examples of the kit released by Eastern Express for example. Though on this kit while there is allot of flash around some of the parts, the fit seems to be better than some later moldings of this kit.

My intention for this build is to add some detail to the cockpit, and since it has been awhile since I have finished anything, to finish it :) I am also using it as a pratice piece for re-scribing the few panel lines there are in anticipation of other projects that will require allot more re-scribing.

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i179/captianplastic/Decorated%20images/hotspur/013.jpg

As you can see there is alot of flash around the parts, nice blue color too!

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i179/captianplastic/Decorated%20images/hotspur/014.jpg

The cockpit area, not much there! There are a couple of ejector pin marks on the side walls, they are not too deep and can be easily sanded out.

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i179/captianplastic/Decorated%20images/hotspur/012.jpg

Re-scribing the wings, I use a Trumpeter scribing tool and it works well for me. To guide the the scribing tool I use a small metal straight edge and Dymo tape for the curved areas.

Forums Works / Hello!
« on: November 12, 2011, 12:58:42 AM »
Hello everyone! I have just joined this nice forum and look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing some of my work, as well as enjoying what all of you are doing. I live in the U.S. with my wife and we have three children....all teenagers :-wall Which can be challenging at times. I enjoying building all types of models, in all media. I prefer to try to stick 48th scale for aircraft, but if I find a subject that intrests me, scale becomes secondary. I especially like Soviet aircraft and U.S. Navy aircraft.......well just about any plane I guess :) I also enjoy trying out different techniques and materials on my builds as well.
Thank you for having me,
Ernie
