Aircraft Modeling / Re: Hasegawa 1/48 Spitfire Mk. Vb built as a Seafire Ib

Imagine them doing a 1:48 Spitfire floatplane as well. Now that would be spectacular. I think they'll do a Scimitar next though, the Sea Vixen has sold very well. 1:48 is really a growth industry, although I like 1:72. The recent Eduard 1:48 stuff is really setting the standard, their MiG-21 is superb, as is the Fw190.

I'm using the XVII folding wings on my Airfix Seafire III :) I think Airfix should concentrate on 1:48 British classics -they should update their Hurricane I and do the II and IV, they'd sell well. I'm surprised they haven't done the PR.XIX in 1:48 yet :(

Thanks, the pictures are very useful, as I have the Airfix 1:48 Seafire III which I'd like to do as a IB too. I have only taped the parts together, so it's nice to see a similar kit made up. The biggest problem is finding codes and serial numbers for the IB :(

Great work, and well-executed camouflage. I hope Airfix release a Seafire XV in 1:48 now! And a Spitfire 21 in the same scale. A PR.XI would be nice as well.

Nicely done and restrained colour. Very nice. Is there a picture of the underside? I'd like to see your interpretation of the arrestor hook, if thats possible? :)

Showing the difference in fuselage length between the P-47D (upper) and converted P-47B (lower).

The ICM one is great, but this is much better. I hope you really enjoy it. Hungarian version in experimental camouflage? The Airfix 1:48 kit was also very good, apart from the raised lines. I've seen it turned into a lovely model.

Nice choice, Scott :)

Probably need to add a spreader bar on the forward fuselage too. Starting to look good, even if I say so myself :)

Further progress, sawed off about 4mm as there is only one exhaust outlet per side on the P-47B. Goes together well, need to add a bit of plastic card as the wing/nose joint is slightly narrower after cutting.

The actual difference in the fuselage is 8", not 1'. Sorry. Luckily the cuts are on panel lines :). I also must add that only the main kit parts were in the bag, all the other parts are in a box somewhere! By the time the house is finished I'll be able to find them. Scott, thanks for the advice re: underside. Luckily the plastic is quite thick, so sanding it down should be quite easy. I don't have many P-47 references, but the book 'Thunderbolt' by R.Freeman has a pretty decent set of plans and some good photographs. Also the old Aerodata book on the P-47 as well.

I need to realign the wing guns, I'll plug the holes with rod and redrill. Also need to build the wheel wells. I do like this old (1965) kit, and as I may have said before, the shape is pretty good. Canopy will need polished out as it's a bit thick.

Which probably explains the work done. I only have limited tools to use, so it's just basic stuff until I can get into the proper work, especially the cockpit and rescribing. Sorry :(

Vacforms are at the same stage too!
