Ground Forces / Jagdpanther (late) - Tamiya 1/48
« on: April 16, 2020, 07:09:15 PM »
This kit has a special story...

4 or 5 years ago, when I was practicing martial arts, one of my fellow "warrior" asked me to learn him how to build a model. He was interested by tanks. I proposed him to build that Jagdpanther that I had in my stock. He began the work and I must say was good; but life being what she is, he didn't had the time to continue... So the kit was sleeping on my stash since then.

Yesterday my eyes falled on the box art. I decided to continue the kit. But as I wish to use another camo, today I've first airbrushed white primer on the wheels and the bottom of the chassis, the parts my friend had already painted...

This is an old Huma kit. Looks like good old Matchbox at first regard; but lot of fitting problems will come...

Aircraft Modeling / Indi's German biplane
« on: December 28, 2019, 07:20:10 PM »
This is a funny conversion of the Stampe SV4: in the Indiana Jones movies, there is a sequence with a "german biplane" that is, in fact, an SV4-C slightly modified to be hanged to a Zeppelin.
RetrokiT realised a resin conversion set for Indi's plane (including a decal sheet). There is no need for big surgery in fact; just to replace some parts of the SV4 kit by the one in resin.
I've begun setting the "cockpits element" in place... Last photo shows you the resin elements.

Aircraft Modeling / Eduard 1/48 Yak-3 week-end
« on: June 22, 2019, 10:09:35 AM »
Something lighter than what I build actually... Will be built from the box as a recreation but also to test the new range of AK Real Colors: My preferred paints are Gunze ones but actually it becomes difficult to find all the references here in Belgium. So, having seen the new AK Real Colors (also a laquer paint, like Gunze or Tamiya) I want to give it a try. And there are cheaper than the Japanese import products...

Aircraft Modeling / Belgian Mirage 5 (Mark One 1/144)
« on: March 24, 2019, 08:01:55 AM »
Well yes, Belgian Mirage again!
I received the kit yesterday from Didier Waelkens (IPMS-Belgium) that asked me to build it and to make an article for KIT (IPMS-Belgium magazine).
Of course, I have to build it in the Belgian version  :-green
So, I'm busy with Mirage 5 on three different scale simultaneously... Funny...

For the Belgian version there will be some extra work to do; I will explain that during the building stages. First detail: the yellow paint on the tail is due to the participation of the aircraft in an ADAC exercise (aerial combat with aircraft of different types) - But the yellow paint was also present on the extremities of the upper surfaces of the wings (see my remarks on the instruction sheet)

The work will begin soon...

Miscellaneous Subjects / Thermae

Another vignette from El Viejo Dragon: Roman women at thermae.
There is a base in resin and 4 figures; for the vignette I will use only three to give them mor space on the base. The fourth one will be painted and presented separately on an individual base...

I've begun this one recently.
She's painted with acrylic colors as a base before to use oil paints.
The cloth is already painted fushia with oil paint (carmine red + titane white)

In parallel with the 1/48 Mirage 5 from Wingman, I'm beginning another one but at 1/72 scale from PJ.
New tooling kit with all the interpanels more discrete...

Aircraft Modeling / Belgian Mirage 5 (Wingman 1/48)
« on: February 02, 2019, 07:14:46 PM »
Wingman Models boxed the Kinetic Mirage IIIE with resin parts and decal sheet for Belgian Mirages 5BA/5BR.
The resin parts are nice but will ask for attention when removing from the carrots : some corrections will be needed.  The 1700L subsonic reservoirs presents lots of little bubbles in the resin at the top of the part, surrounding the fixation to the wing. That will ask for minutious work… Those reservoirs are in two elements ; assembly was OK but a little bit of putty is needed at the junction of the parts.
Decals are made with the help of DACO. DACO is producing many decals for Belgian aircrafts
Actually I don’t know if I will use the decal sheet of the box or the specail Mirage 5 decal sheet (also made by DACO)…
My documentation consists in two excellent books…

Aircraft Modeling / "Master project": Cute Messerschmitt Bf 109Z
« on: November 29, 2018, 07:19:42 PM »
I'am actually working on a Master for Retrokit: a conversion set for the "Cute" Me 109E from Tiger Model, to transform it into a Bf 109Z.
Of course two kits are needed; as also the RetroWings conversion set for a Bf 109G (two sets to be right).
Here is my actual work: I'm making the "central" wing after having cut and joined the left wing of the right fuselage and the right wing of the left fuselage. I've also filled the right cockpit.

Miscellaneous Subjects / Nymphs
« on: September 01, 2018, 04:53:01 PM »
Still from El Viejo Dragon, two nymphs at 1/43 scale (4 cm).
First step was base paint in white then Tamiya Flesh airbrushed - But Tamiya is a little bit too dark for my taste so I will airbrush a nex base with same tamiya paint with some white paint added...

Ground Forces / World War Toons T34/76 converted into T34/85
« on: August 24, 2018, 06:07:50 PM »
World War Toons kits are "chibi" kits (or "cute", or "eggs"  :)) ).
Meng have released some tanks, amongst them is a T34/76. My frien Domi from Retrokit released a conversion set for a T34/85 that I prefer with its more performing gun...

Aircraft Modeling / Dewoitine 501 (Dora Wings 1/48)
« on: August 19, 2018, 03:21:31 PM »
The Dewoitine 501 is for me one of the beautifulest fighters ever built.
Dora Wings release that aircraft. It's short run but parts are nice. Anyway, the build will ask for attention because the instruction sheet is not easy to understand. First thing: the "version A" is the Spanish Republican version and "version B" is the Japanese one. Not indicated on the drawings sheets...
The windshield is in transparent resin like the position lights. Wheels are also in resin as some other parts.
Actually all the parts are washed.
