Great pics--not often we get to see Soviet aircraft being overhauled!!

It reminds me of an early P-40 in a collision with a Messerschmitt!

Lots of filler on this one! The hardest part was fairing in the rocker box fairings and took a lot of sanding/filling/sanding/filling/beer drinking! All the characteristic panel lines on the aft fuselage of a normal Bf 109 were filled too since the prototype had smooth sides.

On the wings the prototype had bulges on top to clear the tires, much as the later model G and K types. I used a set of spare bulges from the parts box and modified them to make them a little smaller.

I keep hoping that there is a photo somewhere!

I look forward to your work!

I have read an account that Hajo Herrmann flew a Bf 109H at night against Bomber Command. Probably that is not correct, but the Wilde Saue flew a variety of aircraft!

I find this a good place to ask you all---do you always put on decals in the same sequence, or start in different places on different airplanes? I always start on the bottom, then left or right, then top wing. A silly question, but interesting to me...

One failing of the old Fujimi kit is lack of detail of the landing gear. As a replacement I will use the excellent Scale Aircraft Conversions metal gear set that is designed for the Dragon Bf 110 kit. It will fit perfectly with only the addition of a locating pin to attach it to the Fujimi wheel well ceiling. The wheels and tires I'm using are from the Eduard Bf 110C series.

I'm going to revive this thread once again to post another variant--the first prototype.

I'm using a spare engine half from my old 1/72 S-3 kit that also provided the radiator bath for the Bf110B. The rocker box fairings on top are Eduard bombs from the Emil series. The kit is an old Academy/Hobbycraft one.

It's coming along nicely!

I wonder who the designer of this was--certainly it wasn't the same person as who designed the Ar 234!

Great, such a little known airplane deserves artwork!

Thank you!

Here are a few photos of further progress, starting with the cockpit. The first owner of the kit also bought a True Details resin cockpit and it was an easy build. Just a little trimming was needed to get a good fit and then a coat of RLM 02. After some detail painting, the cockpit was fitted to the fuselage. Also, before closing the fuselage halves, I widened the rear portion of the fuselage by adding a tapered shim on the upper seam.

After the fuselage was ready I added the wings and tailplane and then sprayed the RLM 65 underneath.

Thank you! It was a fun distraction to build this one and I still have another canopy and other trainer-specific parts for another. Perhaps the second one I'll use an Eduard kit.
