Warplane Art / Printing Artwork question
« on: May 19, 2020, 01:30:00 AM »
Hello everyone,

After a lengthy hiatus from profiling i am getting back into it.

I have a person requesting a custom profile print, I was just wondering if you ever print your work for framing? If so is ti just a laser print or is there some other method I should be looking at?

Any direction is greatly appreciated.

Matt

Warplane Art / Lancaster MK III
« on: January 02, 2013, 12:26:48 AM »
Hello to all and happy new year!

I have been working on this profile for nearly two years. This past summer I was about 80% finished when I lost the file I was working on and didn't have an up to date back up. This was the most catastrophic file loss I have ever had, I lost about 20 hours worth of work, all the turret and cockpit details had to be recreated and that is a very time consuming part of the project.

However, i am now back to where I was in the summer so I thought I'd post my progress. I intend to ramp up my profiling this year.

Time for a new profile, this time a Lancaster.

I am trying a different approach this time, saving out all major areas as seperate files, wings, fuselage, fin etc. Lancaster has variants with different engines, fuselage, turrets etc, just like the Halifax. I learned the hard way on the Halifax so this time I will apply what I've learned and see if it makes the project go faster.
BTW, I live 40 minutes from the one of only two flying lancasters in the world, so I have lots of images and a real example to work from.

Warplane Art / WIP Help
« on: September 03, 2010, 08:48:13 PM »
Hi Guys,

I am self taught in PS and I'm running into some ugly jagged lines when I create curves and I cannot seem to get around it.

So I guess my question is why or how is this happening? You will notice in the attached image that the perspex on the nose looks pretty smooth, I used fill path there, rather than stroke path - could that be it?

Any help is appreciated.

Also please disregard the horrendous looking carburetor ducts on the engines (the vents on top) - I have re-done them on a later version.

Warplane Art / 109E WIP
« on: March 14, 2010, 04:42:25 AM »
Hi all,

For two years I have been working my way through the tutorials on this site and others on creating profiles, I have stopped and started over many times and struggled with teaching myself photoshop at the same time. On top of it all, I don't ahev a lot of time between job, kids, wife etc so much of the time I work for 10-15 minutes a night.

At any rate, I am nearly completed the cowl area of the 109 and wanted to post it o get some feedback, I am lucky in that I live 10 minutes from a flying 109E, I am making the profile in its scheme (see attached). I still have clean up to do on the cowl but I am anxious to hear your comments.

Cheers!

Warplane Art / Need Help with tutorial
« on: April 30, 2009, 02:59:17 AM »
Hi All!

I have been working on the tutorial 109 off and on for about a year. Every time I start to get close to understanding what I am doing I end up getting busy with work or family and go months without touching it, then I have to start over.

There are a few problems that I have each time and I thought i would bring them here.

My first question is, when I use the magic wand to select the aircraft, I have 2 areas that for some reason do not get included, a section on the underside of the engine and the tire. What do I need to do to get them included with the rest of the mask?

I am determined to finish it this time so I am grateful for any help.

Lots of lovely fighters done in here, I am wondering if anyone has tried RAF Bombers
from WW2? Say a Halifax or Lanc?

Warplane Art / Where to find Insignia?
« on: June 26, 2008, 04:00:18 AM »
Hi all,

I'm working my way through the tutorial on the '109 profile (its been a fun and frustrating experience as I am teaching myself photoshop at the same time!). Is there any sites where I can download the German insignia rather than create it from scratch?

Cheers!

Warplane Art / Allow me to Introduce myself!
« on: June 08, 2008, 07:53:36 PM »
Hello to all in this group!

I have lurked here for quite some time and have recently joined the forum with the intention of participating.

My passion in aviation goes back to my youth and I am also a private pilot. My father was a paratrooper and was always interested in a/c and that got me hooked. I also run a website dedicated to the men of RAF Bomber Command (www.bombercrew.com).

My interest in the aviation art stems from the fact that I am an Industrial Designer and naturally drawn to such subjects. However, due to family obligations etc, I haven't spent much time drawing and painting over the past decade but that is something I hope to reverse.

It is inspiring to see such talented individuals producing such quality work, I hope you all won't mind sharing with a newbie. :)
