Combat Warplanes / Kawasaki KI-78 KEN: the final end
« on: March 13, 2013, 11:41:51 AM »
On the Letletlet website and in the first issue of our digital magazine we have amply discussed the Kawasaki Ki-78 high speed research plane. We only mentioned the program was at some timepoint terminated without giving the final fate of the plane.
From attached photo its final end is very clear. After the capitulation of Japan it was discovered by US troops at Gifu. It was crushed to total destruction by a U.S. tank. A sad end......

Combat Warplanes / Hawker Hunter book is out!!
« on: July 04, 2012, 10:45:30 AM »
Vol. 2 in our Warplane series on the Hawker Hunter was released last Friday.
I can only say it even looks better than our Martin Mariner book but of course the Hunter was a very elegant and beautiful plane while the Mariner was a big ugly thing......
Review on the website will follow.
We hope Vol. 3 on the Bf 109G and K will be released early September.

Combat Warplanes / Me-109 which one????
« on: May 08, 2012, 05:01:42 PM »
This is a much published photo of a Messerschmitt Me-109 captured by US forces and transported to the USA.
Unfortunately it is in various books described as being a Me-109G-6, a Me-109G-14AS and a Me-109K-4.
Can anyone out there shed some light on this?

Combat Warplanes / German floatplane
« on: March 30, 2012, 10:53:06 AM »
I found this original photo some weeks ago in a box of very interesting photos offered for sale for Euro 0.50 each.
Reverse side just remarks it is a floatflane accompanied by a submarine,
Any guess which type it is? Seems a Friedrichshafen, but I am not certain on this.
If you want to have full-res file, just let me know!!

Yesterday (Saturday 22 October 2011) the big annual EMS event from IPMS the Netherlands was held again.
As usual it was well visited without any empty space left and many model kits changed owner that day.
For a short impression, see

Combat Warplanes / Duxford airshow 3 Sep 2011
« on: September 04, 2011, 09:45:58 PM »
I am just back from a visit to the Duxford airhow of 3 Sep 2011.
I have made quite a lot of images and for those interested here are just a few I made.
I don't know if any other Member of our forum has taken also photos at Duxford with much  better camera equipment. If so I am looking forward to see these on the Forum.
I am just an amateur using an old Nikon D70S with only a relatively short telelens that is unsuitable for making really good in-flight shots.
I can show more if wanted!!!

Market / Book market
« on: July 05, 2011, 07:29:18 PM »
Interested in the books I have in my shop as reviewed in Letletlet-Magazine 001 and 002???
This Saturday -9th of July- I'll be on a stand at the second-hand book market in the small place of Bredevoort.
It is between Winterswijk and Raalte not very far away from the German border!
I'll sell not only the books reviewed, but I'll also bring along a box filled with other very interesting 2nd-hand aviation books. Stand will be on the small central plain in this place.
Most of these will be on aviation warfare, but I'll also try to bring some other interesting titles with me.
So, if you are interested (and do not live too far away)......be there!!

Combat Warplanes / Some things never change!
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:21:34 PM »
It seems not only civil but also military aircraft types have now an extreemly long service life!
Boeing B-52 is a good example: flew first in the early fifties and is still operational.
Also Russian types like the Antonov An-2 and An-8 seem to have the eternal life.
And Russian 'Bear' is operational, like the B-52, for more than fifty years.
Another nice example is the Grumman Hawkeye. On the two photos you see it photographed at Le Bourget in 1965 and in 2009. Location where I took the photos is almost identical, only C-141 cargo plane is now replaced by C-17!
Timespan between two pictures is almost 45 years!!

Combat Warplanes / Westland Whirlwind
« on: October 08, 2010, 03:31:41 PM »
I recently found a nice book written by Eric Thomas describing his combat experiences while flying the Westland Whirlwind fighter. However, on Internet it was reported this book gives false information and that it was soon withdrawn by the publisher William Kimber when it was introduced in 1988. Surprisingly this book is now quite expensive since it seems to be a collector's item!
Can anyone give more info!
Attached the book cover and a photo of the author in front of 'his Whirlwind' as published in this book.
Attached also same photo without the 'pilot' from other sources!
