Warplane Art / Strsljen i Matica (Hornet and Queen Bee)
« on: September 24, 2015, 10:47:30 AM »
Hello everyone, I'm back.

In drawing, which is presented, are Yugoslav forgotten mini-jets Ikarus 451 family: Strsljen 2 (Hornet 2) and Matica (Queen Bee) in back position.
These were experimental planes from 1950s.
More about them at:

Aircraft Modeling / Smer 1/50 Savoia Marchetti SM 79 - completed
« on: February 22, 2012, 02:57:07 PM »
Hi everybody!
Here is my recent effort, a SMER’s 1/50 Savoia Marchetti SM79, kit. Partially bad fit, but nothing that’s impossible to be assembled and improved. The best thing on this kit, in my opinion, is well materialized shape of the real plane, better than in more modern and detailed kits. The disadvantage is empty interior and lack of details.
Panel lines are re-scribed, where needed, interior (frame, instruments and wheel bay) is hand made from cardboard, painted and detailed by brush and pencils. The rear gunner is a former pilot figure from Airfix‘s Spitfire V. With some surgery and putty, he is “qualified” for radio-operator and gunner.
The side window is open by knife, outlined with a silver line. All surfaces are brush painted, including mottling. Panel lines are enhanced with pencil.
The model represents a plane from Royal Yugoslav Air Force, April war 1941. Yugoslav Savoias were used only as bombers, never as torpedo-bombers.
This kit building took me about hundred hours of work.

Best regards,
Goran

Aircraft Modeling / Heller 1/72 F6F Hellcat
« on: June 22, 2009, 09:21:41 PM »
Here’s one modified earlier work. It’s Heller’s 1/72 F6F Hellcat in night camouflage. If I can recall well, plastic was very soft, without flash, fit was well, decals were good.
Raised panel lines were slightly sanded. Originally, it was painted from the spray can in a dark blue glossy scheme. Recently, I decided to give it a matt coat, which gives finally a satin finish to the model. In such a small scale as 1/72, it looks much more realistic than glossy, which looks more plastic and like a toy.
Cat from hell  :-evil is one of my most favorite planes, mighty and sturdy.

Aircraft Modeling / Hobby Boss 1/72 P 39N Airacobra
« on: May 25, 2009, 09:58:32 PM »
Here’s my most recently built model – Hobby Boss 1/72 P 39N Airacobra. It represents a Soviet plane from the Lend-Lease programme.
I tried to render realistic exhausted plane – a lot of dust, scratches and oil stains, but without unrealistic overshaded panel lines (which looks to me like a cartoon effect).
Hobby Boss model is nice – easy assembling, nice engraved panel lines and realistic shape.
But there’s a serious error: although the model’s nose is filled with a lot of weight, the plane is tail sitter. Simply, the tail is too heavy for tricycle configuration. So, I corrected it by gluing wheels to the ground.

Here are pics.

An elegant French plane in pre-war colors of Royal Yugoslav Air Force, built from Heller's vintage 1/72 kit. I like kit's realistic cascade panel lines (not recessed, nor raised).
