Combat Warplanes / Bf-109-G-14
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:17:47 PM »

:-wise  My wife bought me a book about the arforces of germany's allies in WWII.  In the section concerning Hungary there was a notation concerning Hungarian crashes and deaths in the 109-G-14.  Was there anything inherently wrong with this marke?  I have "Augsburg Eagle" by William Greene and noyhing is mentioned about this particular variant.  Does anyone on the Forum have any info.  These were inflight crashes and were not related to the landing gear.

Combat Warplanes / Engine switch in Hurricane
« on: November 22, 2007, 10:12:38 PM »
I have read somewhere that the Jugoslav airforce once replaced a Rolls Royce engine with a Daimler Benz and that the performance of the Hurricane was improved.  If that is true, I wonder if the same result would have occurred had a DB engine been substituted for an RR in a Spitfire?  If that would be so, woulld it logically follow that DB engined 109's would out perform Spitfires I  and II?

I remember seeing pictures of and reading short articles on an Italian Jet.  It was a two place monoplane with one engine.  Was it built by Caproni?  Does anyone have pactures or info?  I don't believe it ever obtained combat status.

In the thread about the Brewster Buffalo, the Curtis Interceptor and P36 were mentioned as being used by the Dutch Airforce against the Japanese.  There is some information concerning the 36; it was a front line fighter for the US briefly and was used by the French against the Luftwaffe in 1939-40.  The Curtis Interceptor was refused by the US Army Aircorps, but was sold to the Dutch in some numbers.  Does anyone have any info or pictures?

The most successful Axis four motor bomber was the Piaggio 108B.  It was used in the Italian boming campaign against Gibraltar and was the plane in which Bruno Mussolini died.  Does anyone have any info or photos of this Italian 4 engined bomber?
