Aircraft Modeling / Waco CSO/-240 - Brazilian Military Aviation
« on: February 18, 2012, 02:16:12 AM »
Hi guys!!!

I finished this kit a few days before New Year's Eve. It's from a brazilian cottage manufacturer called Commando5. Easy to build, but not without its challenges. I loved it.

Did I mention I'm a Waco fan? :-love

Hi guys,

Here are a few pictures from my Ar-65 in bulgarian Air Service colours. What a great kit from RS. Nice plastic and decals. I messed the rigging, some struts and almost melt the undercarriage when tightening the first. I fixed everything but the u/c. Too much of a complication. So you may forgive me for that.

Combat Warplanes / Öffag Ba.253 in yugoslav service
« on: September 30, 2011, 08:39:56 PM »
Hi guys :-tri

Wanted to ask if you happen to have any information on the Öffag D.IIIs used by the Royal Yugoslavian Air Force in the 1920s as un-armed trainers. I have an old Blue Rider decal sheet with 3 yugoslav aircrafts (2 fighters and one trainer) but no information at all, like if they took part in the balkan wars of 1919-20, for how long were they in service and in which units.

Any info would be really welcome, since the Roden decals are very, very brittle and off register and the Blue Rider ones give a choce to finish the kit.

Thanks in advance,

J.

Hi lads,

This is the second kit finished this year. A really lovely kit, it was a quite straightforward build. I still don't like the way the gun blast tubes ended up looking, though, they should be smaller. But the sole thought of ungluing them gives me the creeps.

Enjoy the pictures!

Hey guys :-tri

How are things coming around here? I've watched most of the updates and there's some serious building going on! Great!

I finally finished the Se.5a from Roden in 1/72. Lovely little kit. Hope you like the pictures.

Hi mates!

Hope you're doing fine over here. Work and daily life (and a good dose of Facebook) have kept me away from this nice place.

Today, I leave you the 2nd part of the Arado 65 from RS build. Some crappy photos, bad english and worst modeling but entertaining to write... Really, an off road topic :-jump

 :-wch A miracle!!! :-wch

That's me actually building something, other than negative comments on my skills playing the mandolin :-wall

I don't remember if you have seen these pictures at the time, but let me bore you with my dubious modeling tastes.

The SE is nearing completion now, all rigging was done by a friend of mine, who's more patient than me about those subtleties named rigging, detail painting, etc.

It only takes a coat of varnish to get it finished. Just like the SE, it's not perfect, but at least they're getting finished. Also, let me introduce you to Kirin, the pet cat of my friend Pablo:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/Maquetas%20JIP/DSC01182.jpg

And yes, that's a Cant Z.501 from Italeri he's seating on. He likes that boat even more than I do. The kit's box and the neck of my Fender bass give a clear idea about the size of that "little" critter...

Cheers!

Hi mates!

I've been rushing thing a little bit these days, we have a modeling contest this weekend. I set aside everything I had on the modeling bench and started this little kit, a gift from a spanish friend to a mutual friend who in the end felt it was going to look better if I built it. Holy, if he only knew...

This is the plane i want to do, it was used by the Argentine Navy as an advanced trainer during 1927-29. As you can see from the picture, somebody was feeling overconfident on its landing skills. Before military use, it was the mount of an aerobatic pilot, president of the Argentine Aeroclub.

It was un-armed, so it is even more appealing to me. Right now I have to start putting on all of the struts and check for the alignment of the upper wing. In the meantime, enjoy these pictures during the build. I put the wheels and propeller on just for fun, I've already taken them out. It's a really good kit and Roden is certainly THE company when it comes to WWI in 1/72nd.

And a view of my current modeling bench, a small table in the kitchen, where the light and sight of the patio usually inspire me to build wacky things like the SE in argentine colours.

Aircraft Modeling / My current projects...
« on: April 08, 2008, 05:22:04 AM »
Hi mates,

first of all I wanted to congratulate each and everyone of you for the outstanding job you all do with your model kits. Some of them are not easy at all.

Second, I wanted to show you what has been keeping me away from here, and Internet in general. The first pics are from a Special Hobby MAVAG Heja II. This beautiful aircraft is basically a Re.2000 to wich our hungarian friends mated a french engine, ye' ole, trusty G&R K14 and Gebauer MGs. Not a top notch fighter, but better than flying a Cr.42 in 1944. Excelent kit, simple and straightforward. It's ready for painting now...

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/heja.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/heja2.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/heja1.jpg

It should be finished like this... I hope :-green!

Also there's an old Matchbox He-70 I built 15 years ago that is getting a major overhaul. Will turn it into a He-170, also hungarian and with a wild camouflage scheme. The original, locally made hobby paint by Monitor Ind. Arg. was sanded away as was general detail by the always dependable wet & dry. After some 15 minutes, the sandpaper was as smooth as never. Those Matchbox kits were powerful filler, file and sandpaper eaters indeed... but I love them.

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/DSC00326.jpg

Should end up looking like this  :-love:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/he170-4.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/he170-5.jpg

The other one ready for paint, besides the Heja is the MS-406 in turkish colours. It's the Hasegawa 1/72 kit with Propagteam decals:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/DSC00306.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/DSC00308.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/morane.jpg

The last one for tonight (it's 00.20 AM here) is a bulgarian Arado Ar-65 from RS. Besides the tricky full PE interior, so far the kit has just fallen together without using any filler or extra plastic:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/cabinaar65.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/cabinaar651.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r141/javier_planells/DSC00305.jpg

Finished, it should look like this:

Nice, isn't it?

Well, that's all folks for tonight. I hope you've enjoyed them, perhaps not classic warbirds, but they're very interesting, both the real airplanes and the model kits.

Cheers and take care,

It's been a long time since my last submission. How are you all? Hope you're fine.  :-ok

This time I have a real  :-wise, the grandfather of modern airliners, for you. It's a Revell Junkers F.13 in the Spanish Red Cross livery. Two of them were used as Medevacs during the moroccan campaign in 1925. The passenger cabin got a stretcher and a seat for the medic taking care of the wounded, in case of carrying lightly wounded soldiers, the stretcher was replaced by seats. They were rugged beasts, flying in some of the worst weather conditions, both inland and over the sea. Rugged planes and stubborn pilots make a strange combination, just like this fella hitting against the wall  :-wall I guess...

The Revell kit is actually of Eastern German origin, it was made by VEB Plastikart in the 70s. What a wonderful kit, it has some alignement problems with the floats but most of the problems were self-inflicted. VEB also released the G-24 around the same time and while it was present in older catalogues from Revell, it's been a long time since its last reissue... What a shame, I'd like to build at least 2 or 3 of them in different configurations and liveries.

It was entered in the last 2 contests of the year (didn't make it on time for the first ones) and got a Best in Show at the IPMS Quilmes Regional and the 1st place in the 2007 edition of the La Plata Modeling Association Contest. Not too bad for an oldie like this one...  :-tri

Ok, enough cheap chat and self-indulgence. Here's the model, I hope you'll enjoy it!

The only model kits not dwarfed by the F.13 were the Ikarus Blenheim Mk.I and the Trumpeter Wyvern,  :-eek :-eek :-eek strictly 1/72nd speaking... It's a large wingspan and a short fuselage, paint it black and you get a bat...  :-evil

Combat Warplanes / Yugoslav Hurricane
« on: July 18, 2007, 10:47:15 PM »
Hi guys,

it's been a time since my last post here. A friend of mine has been building a Yugoslav Hurricane, he's checked Srecko's study about the colors and he asked me to post his question here: is there any 3-viw drawing showing the modified british patter or the Zmaj one? He's really crazy about it so if you could help him out on this one would be great.

In another fashion, last week there was a modeling contest here in Buenos Aires, my Polikarpov IL-400b got a 3rd place :-tri but, sadly, the Ikarus Blenheim got nothing... damn those Bfs & Fws  :-bat A relatively large group of people was surprised by the outcome of the show. Anyway, my revenge on that also bases on an MPM kit, though an old one... I'm gonna take the old  :-danger Tupolev SB bomber :-danger and turn it into a PS-40 mail carrier with Aeroflot. I know the kit is a dog and I have 3 ICM kits in the stash, but be cause it is in my stash that dog's gonna get built one way or the other :-wall

Thx in advance for your help,

Javier

Aircraft Modeling / Sea Hurricane Mk.IIc
« on: June 23, 2007, 12:12:38 AM »
Hi guys,

I wanted to present you with another of last year's work. This is the Sea hurricane from Revell, a really nice kit, the only problem was the lower rear part of the fuselage. The plastic insert is too shallow and took a lot of sanding to correct. Also I changed the propeller, since the original is for the canadian built Mk.XII. I used the one from the old Airfix Hurricane Mk.I. Paints were a mix of Humbrol, Modellmaster and Revell and the weathering was kept around the middle scale in my "weather-o-meter".

Hi folks!

My name is Javier and I'm from Argentina. This is my first message here and wanted to share with you the first MPM Blenheim Mk.I built by me. First than anything,  I like Yugoslav aircraft a lot so it was my first try at building and painting one of the VV birds. The Blenheim I is one of the most beautiful airplanes of the 30s and I just couldn't resist the cammouflage scheme. It's built out of the box, except for the machine gun, gunner seat and a few levers inside the cockpit. Well, that's pretty much it, so I hope you'll enjoy the pictures.  :)
