Hi mate,

The use of images of the kit itself on the boxes was the result of a law that obliged the manufacturers to show the product that they sold...
But, as there were "fakes" (for example, the 1/48 scale MiG 25 of Revell the picture on the box showed actually the 1/72 scale kit from Hasegawa...) this law was abandonned and the art pistures were again permitted...

Hi Nico,

From a pure collector's point of view, the model should not be assembled...
In the state where it is, I think (it's my own opinion) that it's worth of detailing it.

Hi Nico,

This kit looks like an Allyn model issued in the 1950's in 1/48 scale. It has been reissued in the 1970's by Microscale the decal manufacturer.
At the time, in about 1976-1977 I bought the Skyray. There were only four parts to assemble the model : two parts for the plane itself , a clear part for the canopy and an arrester hook.
No landing gear, etc.
The decal shhet was from, naturally, Microscale for an operational plane although the kit represented the prototype...

McDonnell XF-88 Voodoo (a kit of which in 1/48 scale was issue by Linberg) :

The second prototype had been fitted with a butterfly Vee-tupe empennage :

Hi mate,

There were several artists at revell's.
For Heller, in the 1950's until the early 1980's, that was Paul Lengellé, who was also an official aviation artist for the Musée de l'air.
