Hi mate,  :-salut

I'm not at home and I try to reply your question :
This plane was taken over by the British in may 1945. It belonged to NJGr. 10 (or Kommando Welter) and was, if I remember well, WNr 110305, "rote 8".
After trials in GB it was given South Africa and was restored in the same state it was in 1945.
It's one of the best (and authentic) restoration.

Aircraft Modeling / Pre WW 2 plastic model kits...
« on: November 22, 2008, 10:28:59 AM »
Hi all,  :-salut

Here are adds by "Line Bros" for their Frog "Penguin" series :

13 May 1937, in the magazine "Flight" (Penguin series):

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/jicehem/Frog_130537_.jpg

1st December 1939 :

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/jicehem/Frog_011239_.jpg

10 October 1940 :

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/jicehem/Frog_101040_.jpg

After the war, the name "Penguin" was dropped and the models which "survived" were all in the Frog series.
before issueing plastic models, Line Bros manufactured flying model in wood and paper. It's said that "Frog" is an acronym meaning "Flight Right Off the Ground"...

Aircraft Modeling / The oldest kit...
« on: November 22, 2008, 10:14:01 AM »
Hi all,

The oldest kit of my collection. I built one in 1957 ! And the one on the photo has been finished in November 1995 and slightly improved only in details.
The kit is surprisingly accurate and exactly in 1/48 scale.
The modeling historians tell it was issued in 1949 by "O'Line", the first name of "Lindberg Line", a manufacturer established in 1933 but, at the time, issueing no plastic kits.

In any case, the oldest plastic kits have been issued by the British manufacturer "Frog", before WW 2.

Hi all,

Photographed in 1995 at Saxonwold in South Africa's National War Museum.
The photo was taken by a friend (another photographer while based at La Réunion) who knows that I like those planes...

Book about modeling with 300+ pages!!! This is something most interesting I hear and hope you will inform us more. And better to say maybe we could arrange something for web if you agree.

I don't know if it should be interesting...
I'll try to find some attractive subject.

With my PC, it's impossible !

Aircraft Modeling / The very first vacuformed kits.
« on: November 22, 2008, 09:11:46 AM »
Hi all,  :-salut

Here you have one among six vacuformed kits issued under the label "Ventavia" in... December 1959.
They were from Ventax in Paris. The six models were : SNCASO SO 9050 Trident II, SNCAN N-1402 Gerfaut II, Gloster Javelin, Lockheed F-104, SM 62 Snark, and Convair 240.

The pictures show the SNCASO Trident II in 1/100 scale :

I built it in 2006.
1) You have to cut off all the parts :

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/jicehem/SNCASOSO9050TridentII4Ventax_constr.jpg

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/jicehem/SNCASOSO9050TridentII5Ventax_constr.jpg

2) You assemble it, including stiffeners...

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/jicehem/SNCASOSO9050TridentII7Ventax_constr.jpg

... and putty :

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/jicehem/SNCASOSO9050TridentII10.jpg

3) ,After good sanding, you obtain that :

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j215/jicehem/SNCASOSO9050TridentII13.jpg

4) Then, you paint the model after assembling the landing gear (these parts are injected moulded) and add the decals (made with spar decals because the actual decals were entirely dark yellow ! :

5) The final result :

You're welcome, mate !  :)

In general I note what I do on my kits when building them. I do so for years and my "modeling book" contains 392 pages... and is not finished...
So, I had only to scan the sketches... But only tonight because I was not at home yesterday and this morning.

Cheers,
Jicehem
