Aircraft Modeling / Dassault MD 312 Flamant II
« on: July 31, 2010, 05:23:24 PM »
Hi mates  :-salut

Here is my latest kit, a Dassault MD 312 Flamant II from Azur in 1/72 scale.
I must say it's not a very good kit. There are some very important inaccuracies such as wing dihedral and sweepback, location of the horizontal tailplane and the incidence of the engines... The wheels too are inaccurate being those of the prototype... All these corrections have taken much time and the kit has been built over... three years with a break of several months !

The real thing, in 1960 :

Hi Samuraj,  :-salut

Splendid ! Very beautiful work on a very beautiful plane.  :-love
The only one detail I think to be retouched are the yellow tips of the propeller blades. They were actually 6 in. (about 2 mm in 1/72)
But this build is amazing.

Thanks for info and color will be changed :) What medium blue you suggest, national insignia color?

No, blue of the French cocarde, equivalent of Humbrol 89...

Thank you :) How about this one, to be next?

hi mate,

This is the plane with which Jan Blair shot down a Bf 109 G-6/R3 on 20 February 1944 over the Orkneys. The "109" was Bf 109 G-6/R3, WNr 20537, coded A6+XH, from 1.(F)/Aufkl. Gr 120 at Stavanger-Sola in Norway. Pilote Oblt. Helmut Quednau has been killed.

The French one  :-razz

Hi mate,

This plane is exactly a P-39Q-25-BE photographed probably at Vallon (Southern France) in March 1945. The background of the of GC 2/9 "Auvergne", the famous "Morietur" is a medium blue, not yellow.

Me to! Very good design and interesting that South Africans has used it during the WW2.

And the French captured one South African Ju 86 Z-7 (N° 850, ex-civilian plane put into service with the South African AF) in Djibouti in April 1941 and flew it for about 300 hours with "Vichy's armée de l'air". It was later given back to the South African by the Free French forces...

All the best,

Thank you for nice words! Do you have any image of the French Do 24? They could be interesting subject especially if they are in French naval blue grey colors :-flo

There were blue grey and too there were all white...

Hi mates,  :-salut

What a surprise and what a beautiful profile !
The French Navy used several Do 24s after the war. This plane had been produced in France during the war (54) for Germany and after the war 40 other Do 24 Ts were built by Nord-Aviation, the first nines with parts in stock. Contrary to what is often believed no captured German Do 24 at all was used by France after the war.
