Combat Warplanes / Sukhoi T-4
« on: August 22, 2021, 07:04:59 PM »
In the early 1960s, the USSR began to think about creating a super-high-speed heavy bomber. Its targets were to be aircraft carriers of a likely enemy (read-the United States). The Sukhoi Design Bureau also submitted its T-4 project to the competition announced in 1961.

It was a low-winged tailless plane with a triangular wing, a front horizontal tail and a deflected nose. It was equipped with 4 × RD36-41 engines with a thrust of 158 kN. The maximum speed (estimated) is 3200 km / h, the flight range is 7000 km. The planned armament is 2 × X-45 hypersonic anti-ship missiles.

First flight was at 22 August 1972. Tests have shown that the characteristics of the T-4 correspond to the calculated ones. A batch of 250 aircraft was even ordered. But mass production has not begun. In 1974, the project was stopped. The exact reason is unknown — perhaps the Sukhoi Design Bureau was loaded with the Su-27 project or the T-4 was considered unpromising.

Combat Warplanes / F8F Bearcat
« on: August 21, 2021, 04:00:30 PM »
Although the Grumman F6F Hellcat carrier-based fighter was just put into service, in 1943 Grumman Aircraft already began working on a replacement for it. Experienced pilots who fought on the Grumman F4F Wildcat were involved in drawing up the requirements. The new fighter received the designation F8F Bearcat and, compared to the F6F, was noticeably lighter.

The F8F Bearcat was a single-seat low-wing aircraft with a retractable landing gear and a folding wing. The F8F-2 modification was equipped with a Pratt & Whitney R-2800-30W Double Wasp engine (2250 hp) with a maximum speed of 732 km / h and a flight range of 1778 km. Armament — 4 × 20-mm guns + 4 × missiles + up to 454 kg of bombs.

At the beginning of 1945, the aircraft was put into mass production. But he did not take part in the Second World War. It was in service with the US Navy until 1955. It was also used by the French and Thai Air Forces. A total of 1,265 F8F Bearcat fighters were produced.

Combat Warplanes / Fouga 90
« on: August 20, 2021, 04:37:37 PM »
One of the first successful jet training aircraft was the Fouga SEE 170 Magister. In 1967, Aérospatiale absorbed the Potez company (which had previously absorbed Fouga). After the takeover, the company thought about upgrading SEE 170 Magister. The updated aircraft received the designation Fouga 90.

The Fouga 90, although it remained a two-seat mid-plane with a V - shaped tail, looked very different from the CM.170. The fuselage, cockpit and wing were redesigned. It was equipped with 2 × Turbomeca Astafan IIG engines with a thrust of 7 kN. The maximum speed is 640 km / h, the flight range is 1850 km. Armament — 2 × 20 mm guns (in the project) + up to 800 kg of combat load on 4 suspension points.

The Fouga 90 showed good flight characteristics and was demonstrated at exhibitions. But it was not put into mass production — the Air Forces of France and other countries preferred other aircraft. Only one sample of the Fouga 90 was built.

Military and civilians at the crash site of the Farman HF reconnaissance aircraft.30 of one of the air detachments of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army (Рабоче-крестьянской Красной армии). The USSR, the beginning of the 1920s. Unfortunately, it was not possible to find out the fate of the pilot (and, possibly, the observer pilot) after this incident. The airplane of mixed construction — wood, steel pipes, plywood and canvas — could not withstand a collision with a strong wooden house.

Designed in 1915 in France by Farman HF.30 did not become too popular on the Western Front. But this aircraft was one of the most massive aircraft of the Russian Imperial Air Force. Under license, more than 400 Farman HF.30 samples were produced in the Russian Empire. After the October Revolution, Red Army air detachments were formed from some of the aircraft. In 1921, 127 old Farman HF remained in service.30 + 50 new airplanes were built.

Combat Warplanes / CANT Z. 506 Airone
« on: August 19, 2021, 03:44:17 PM »
August 19, 1935-the first flight of the seaplane CANT Z. 506 Airone.

A / k Ala Littoria in 1934 ordered a transport seaplane for operation on its routes. The company CANT offered its project Z. 505, developed by the designer Filippo Zappata (Filippo Zappata). But, even before the first flight of the Z. 505, Zappata began working on an enlarged version of it — the Z. 506.

It was an all-wood medium-sized plane with a float landing gear and a crew of 3-5 people. In the Z. 506B version, it was equipped with 3 × Alfa Romeo 126 R.C. 34 engines (750 hp), the maximum speed was 350 km/h, the flight range was 1998 km. I took 12-14 passengers on board. In the military version, it was armed with 1 × 12.7-mm machine guns + 3 × 7.7-mm machine guns + up to 1200 bombs (or a torpedo).

314 of the 356 released Cant Z. 506 were built in the military version. They were in service with the Italian Air Force and Navy, as well as Spain and Poland. Civilian modifications were flown in the Ala Littoria a/c. The last Z. 506 seaplanes were decommissioned in 1960.

Ground Forces / T-16
« on: August 18, 2021, 10:59:48 AM »
The latest armored repair and evacuation vehicle T-16 on a unified tracked platform " Armata "is expected to be presented at the International military-technical Forum"Army-2021". It is designed for the evacuation and repair of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, including T-14 and T-15, in the field. In terms of functionality, it is distinguished from the BRAM of previous generations by the presence of a manipulator that can lift up to one and a half tons, as well as an increased height and lifting capacity of the crane.
