Interesting news! Since the Netherlands are also participating in the JSF project I assume Dutch fighter pilots will also fly it!
Revell has already anticipated on the Dutch F-35 with the release of their 1/48 scale kit of the F-35! Decals included are also for 322 Squadron - Leeuwarden 2010(!). During the Dutch AF Open Days at Leeuwarden some weeks ago, a full-size mock-up from Lockheed-Martin was shown of the JSF sprayed in........yes, 322 Sqn colours! This picture is in the Leeuwarden Open Day file on this site!

Yes, it WAS unique! The Blue Angels only flew together with the Red Arrows on the first day (Friday) of the airshow. The next day it was not repeated for safety(!) reasons! Maybe it was because there was a small mishap that Friday when one of the Blue Angel planes had a tyre burst at take off...

Combat Warplanes / Re: Fokker D-VII

This was the last Fokker on show during the Biplane Fly-in days, although strictly speaking it is not a biplane. However, the taxi run demonstration was quite unique. And..........this is an original Spin; it is NOT a replica. Some years ago, it was even flown occasionally, but that has come to an end. This type is too rare to take any risks!

The D-VII was not the only Fokker at the Biplane Fly-in. Also the Fokker Dr.1 replica from Stichting Vroege Vogels PH-DRI was shown!

At Lelystad airport, the annual biplane fyi-in was held today. First shown to the public was this Fokker D-VII replica in Dutch AF colours built by volunteers of the Stichting Vroege Vogels (Foundation Early Birds). It could taxi under its own power!

Combat Warplanes / The day of the display teams!
« on: June 17, 2006, 10:27:31 AM »
Yesterday (16.06.2006), the first of two Open Days of the Dutch air force Klu was held at Leeuwarden AFB.
There were no less than four display teams; Read Arrows, Patrouille de Suisse, Patrouille de France and last but not least the U.S. Navy Blue Angles. We saw this day a unique formation flight of the Red Arrows and Blue Angles together! We also saw an incredible fligh display  by the Frenchman Christian Moullec with his Ultralight plane in close formation with a flock of geese! Last, we saw a short-landing demonstration of the Blue Angles Hercules burning off all its tyres! Here are some nice shots of the total of 225 pictures I made!

If they make the wings longer, they have paratroopers using a glider!
Nothing new since WW-II it seems!

Combat Warplanes / Re: These Big Boeing Bombers!!

Yes, the B-47 was designed using German aerodynamic research data captured by U.S. forces at the end of the war. It seems Boeing engineers were actually in Germany for investigation. Originally, in 1943 (!), the XB-47 was a straight wing design, but based on the German data the original plan was changed into a very daring swept-wing design with performances similar to these of the latest jet fighters!

Boeing produced after the war not less than 3 generations of bombers: the B-47, B-50 and B-52 of which the B-52 is still operational today! Here are some very nice company pictures I found today of these impressive ships!

That nice shot of the Danish Drakens 35XD actually shows the delivery flight of the first 3 Drakens out of a total of 46.
Date was 1 September 1970. This is an original 'Saabfoto'  made by I. Thuresson.
