Combat Warplanes / Hawker Hurricane
« on: November 06, 2021, 10:13:11 PM »
The chief designer of Hawker Aircraft, Sir Sidney Camm, in the early 1930s, discussed with representatives of the Royal British Air Force a monoplane fighter to replace the Hawker Fury biplane. In 1934, the company received an order from the Aviation Ministry to develop such a project. The new fighter was named Hurricane. November 6, 1935 - the first flight of the Hawker Hurricane piston fighter.

It was a single-seat low-wing with a retractable landing gear. In the Mk.IIC variant, it was equipped with a Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine (1185 hp) with a maximum speed of 550 km/h and a flight range of 970 km. Armament ? 4 ? 20 mm Hispano Mk II guns + 2 ? 110-kg or 230-kg bombs.

The reliable and easy-to-manufacture Hurricane entered service with the Royal Air Force already in 1937. 14487 fighters of all variants were produced. Hurricane actively participated in the Second World War and, in addition to the UK, were in service with more than 20 countries (Australia, Canada, France, the USSR, etc.)

Combat Warplanes / Saab 32 Lansen
« on: November 03, 2021, 06:15:53 PM »
In 1946, Saab began work on a project that was supposed to replace the Saab B 18 / S 18 bombers. 2 years later, the Swedish government clarified the requirements for a new strike aircraft ? it should be jet, as well as universal (attack aircraft, fighter, bomber). Thus began the history of the Saab 32 Lansen. November 3, 1952 - the first flight of the Saab 32 Lansen multi-purpose attack fighter.

The Lansen was a two-seat low-wing with a retractable landing gear. The Svenska Flygmotor RM6A engine with a thrust of 65.3 kN on the afterburner allowed it to reach speeds of up to 1200 km / h. The flight range is 2000 km. In the fighter version, it carried the following armament ? 4 ? 30 mm ADEN guns + up to 1500 kg of combat load (missiles) on 4 suspension points.

Lansen was produced in 3 versions - attack aircraft (A 32A), fighter (J 32B) and scout (S 32C). It became the first supersonic aircraft of the Swedish Air Force. 450 Saab 32 Lansen units of all modifications were built. These aircraft were in service with the Swedish Air Force until 1997.

Landing gear is add but not door, they will be placed at the very end (as well need to do some dry brush over landing gear. Cockpit is also masked, some minor details need to be correct and it is on its place now. Small details remain to put on kit but before that need to do some engraving and final surface finish.

Combat Warplanes / Landgraf H-2
« on: November 02, 2021, 05:48:21 PM »
Engineer Fred Landgraf, who previously worked at Douglas Aircraft, was more attracted to helicopter construction than work on airplanes. Therefore, in 1943 he founded his own company Landgraf Helicopter. The first project was the H-2 helicopter, designed to participate in the US Army competition. On November 2, 1944, the first flight of the Landgraf H-2 light helicopter.

It was a single-seat all-wood helicopter of a transverse scheme with a retractable landing gear. The H-2 did not have a blade skewing machine ? it was controlled by roll, pitch and yaw using ailerons mounted on each of the three blades of both propellers. It was equipped with a Pobjoy R engine (85 hp) with a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

During the tests, the H2 showed good flight characteristics and the Landgraf Helicopter received financial support from the military. But later the appearance of more advanced helicopters led to the withdrawal of funding and the project was closed. Traces of the only H-2 built are lost after 1949.
