Aircraft Modeling / Chance Vought F7U-3 Cutlass, my third kit.
« on: December 03, 2012, 08:29:12 AM »
Hi everybody, :-salut

Here is to be seen my third kit (but in reality the second built) of the Cutlass : F7U-3 from Fujimi in 1/72 scale. I should say that the kit is good, but suffers from some inaccuracies in shape particularly the back of the fuselage which is a little too "round"... The general rendering is good. Fujimi has produced three different kits of the Cutlass : F7U-3, F7U-3M (Missiles armed) and F7U-3P (Recce plane). My kit has been built in 1991 "out of the box". I never searched to know if the kit's dimensions are accurate for the scale.

Cheers,

Excuse me, please. I forgot to tell you your model is really very good on all points of view.

Aircraft Modeling / Hawker Tempest V of a French pilot.
« on: November 19, 2012, 09:31:16 AM »
Hi everybody,  :-salut

Here can be seen a  particular Hawker Tempest V of RAF 274 Squadron, serialed EJ775 and coded JJ°A. This plane was flown by Régis Deleuze, a French pilot. He was never registered in the Free French Air Forces for the unique reason he was "too much young" when he tried to join FAFL (Forces aérienne françaises libres) on 23 June 1940 (He was born on 1 July 1922). So he joined the RAF Volunteer Reserves ans after his training, he was graduated Flight Lieutenant and joined the RAF 501 Sqn on 4 June 1943 where he flew Spitfire VBs in company of at least four other French pilots (from FAFL). When 501 Sqn was equipped with Tempest Vs its new rôle was to fight the V1 flying bombs. Between 7 August and 18 December 1944, Régis Deleuze won the distinction of shooting down eight "Malignant Robots" seven of which by night ! On 22 February 1945, Deleuze joined 274 Squadron based on continental Europe at B80 Volkel in Holland. The glorious career of Régis Deleuze sadly ended on 25 February 1945 when he was KIA, beeing shot down by Flak over Werkhoven, near Bunnik in the Netherlands. Although he was never an "FAFL" I think his place is among them... Since the end of the war he rests in Brussels.

The kit is Eduard's and is far from being accurate... But it's the best of both known in 1/48 scale (the other one beeing AMT's). It demanded a lot of time to correct it... It's hand-painted and markings were provided by different decal sheets as no one is dedicated to this little known pilot...

Very good rendering. Bravo !
On official OS-Liste the camo scheme is in RLM 70/02 colors (fall 1939-Summer 1940) for the Bf 109 E. Before that period colors were 70/71. Your Bf 109 D has been repainted before delivering to a training unit.

Excellent results Jicehem!!!!!

One of the Lindberk kits was in my built collection years ago but it ended up being given to a friend in the early 1990s. As I remember it was a very basic model.

Yes, it was very basic but accurately shaped and really in 1/48 scale in both length and span. A very surprising fact at the time (1949-1950). Have you seen it on the forum ?
