Mfg495:

Thanks for the info about Italian paratroopers.  The bit about Italian paratroopers in WWI was most nteresting.  Would you have any idea as to where one might find additional information on this event?

Many are not aware of how important Italian troops were to Rommels efforts.  Most of his troops armor and airforce were Italian and they were supplied by the Italian navy.

Whae I worked for IBM I got to fly in a Fokker F27 Friendship, I believe it was.  We flew from Pittsburgh to Lexington, Kentucky where IBM had a plant at that time.  I remember thinking about the WW I heritage of the company.  Nice plane.

Have you ever seen the picture of an early Ilya Mourametz Russian giant in full flight with a Cossack standing on the wing holding on to a strut?  I wonder how he kept his hat on?

Are there any photos out there or details of the Savoia Marchetti SM 84.  It was suppposed to be an imporved SM 79. Also, What is available concerning the CRDA Cant Z. 1007bis Alcione in its various iterations?  There was also a two engined version powered by either a DB 605A, or !320 Hp Piaggio or 1350 HP Alfa Romeo. oth of the Cant's were handsome airplanes.  I have not been able to find much about them.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Great photos!  I saw one of these fighters at Wright Patterso Air Force Base a number of years ago.  The workmanship and finish on the plane was very good.  I will look to see if I still have any pictures.

:-wise Was that 37 mm gun ever used successfully in air combat?  I would think it would be great for anti troop use.  How was it reloaded and how many, if any, reloads were aboard?

Gentlemen:
First of all, thanks for the correction about the DB601 engines.  Old age has muddled my memory.  Of course it should have been Junker Jumo 211 @ 1220 HP each.

The display of images for all versions of the Spaviero are magnificent.

I can't believe that the SM 79 lost out in a competition with the American Martin Bomber.  Until the advent of the Baltimore in British service, their performance was poor.  Was the fix in?

Thanks, guys.  I do have some talents.  I can Yodel (not well) and play the Tuba in a German band.  My wife says that for the most part I am useless.

Thank you for the info on the 108.  This is material I have never seen before.  Do you have any info on the death of Bruno Mussolini?

The most successful Axis four motor bomber was the Piaggio 108B.  It was used in the Italian boming campaign against Gibraltar and was the plane in which Bruno Mussolini died.  Does anyone have any info or photos of this Italian 4 engined bomber?
