Aircraft Modeling / Dassault Mirage F1 family in 1/72 scale
« on: July 11, 2014, 03:24:36 PM »
Hello everybody,

Here is the Mirage F1 family in 1/72 scale.

Mirage F1C, first batch from N° 1 to 103 (Heller kit) with Aerodecals markings, built in July 1979 :

F1C series 200 (Hasegawa kit) built in May 1986 :

F1B (Heller kit, now very rare... because moulds have been modified into F1CR then F1CT) with Aerodecals markings built in September 2004. The internal windshield must be added between the two cockpits :

F1CR (Hasegawa kit with Heller parts and markings) built in August 1986 :

F1CT (Heller kit including markings) built in November 2005 :

The "wrapped around" camouflage sheme :
Uppersurfaces (Colors are not NATO ones but French. The Green is less Olive) :

Undersurfaces, painted from photos because Heller forgot to show them !

The complete family photographed in November 2013 :

Cheers,

Jicehem

Aircraft Modeling / Re: Bf 108 Eduard Weekend Edition

I have some constructor photographs exactly taken from side and other which show the details I spoke of. It's sufficient to look at photographs to see the kit is very inaccurate.
Another detail : fuselage had no recessed line between panels because these "fuselage rings" were juxtaposed in such a manner that the metal sheet overlapped slightly the previous one and that against the direction of flight.

The difference with the Bf 109 (and Bf 110) :

Hi mates,

I'm sorry to write what is following but Eduard's Bf 108 B is very inaccurate in many respects... such as air intake of engine cowling front, too short fuselage, inaccurate hinge line on horizontal tailplane, swept leading edge of fin, wing tips, the missing "pleat" at the base of the fin on the fuselage top, etc. Eduard probably used the drawings from Close-Up that are not good.
I tried to build one with the markings of the Armée de l'air, modifying it into a Nord N-1000 "Pingouin" (Bf 108 D) and at the time of writing I have abandonned it for about one year because of the so many inaccuracies...  :-wall

Hi mate, :-salut :-salut

Good job. Bravo.
Only some details :
On first profile, N° 272 on the fin is the serial number of the plane. "2" doesn't indicate the Escadrille. At the time (1986) this F1 belonged to EC 1/5 "Vendée" (not Île-de-France) the two escadrilles were not distinct one from another although the airplanes wore the two badges (1ère escadrille's badge, on the right side, being a "Cigogne" (stork), the so-called "Cigogne de Saint Galmier". This plane has been coded : 5-NG (1986), 5-AU (1988), 13-SQ (1995) and finally 30-SQ (1997).
Mirage F1s of the first batch (N°1 to 103) without the in-flight refueling device were shorter by 25 cm.
Plane N° 632 is a F1CR (Recce airplane, serial numbers from 601 to 664) and not a F1CT (the 54 F1CTs wearing serial numbers of former Mirage F1 as these planes were obtained through modifications from N° 219 to N°282 but not in order, the demonstrator being N° 227, the first modified being N° 273 and the 54th being 262, There are gaps (N° 222, 224, 240, 250, 263, 269 was the first F1CR-601, 277 being the F1CR-602). The camouflage sheme for MF1CT is of the "wrapped-around" type.
MF1C-244, coded 5-OQ belonged to EC 2/5 "Île-de-France".
ECM or LF detectors appeared on F1 N°79 onwards apart from N°46, the sole F1 below N° 79 having received this system.
During flypast on July 14th, 2014 in Paris, MF1s will make their last flight after... 40 years of service in the Armée de l'air.

Cheers,

Hello !  :-salut :-salut

Here are my Revell-based G-10s and K-4s. They are all old builds apart from the Erla's K-4 which was built in August 2012.

1) Genuine Revell kit without modifications. It's a WNF model of II./JG 52 :

Bf 109 G-10, Mtt-production, KG(J)6 :

Bf 109 G-10, Erla production, of ANR and JG 300 :

Bf 109 K-4, Mtt production (my first modification of the kit, in March 1981 :

Bf 109 K-4, Erla production :

I'll post later photos of Fujimi's K-4 (The worst kits for G-AS, G-10 and K-4 series !) and of the Bf 109 HV1, based on mixed Otaki and Revell kits.

Hi mate,  :-salut :-salut

Yes, 1/48 scale. I built a lot of them modified in different versions. It's a good base but to perfection the engine-cowlings must be improved.
