Manufacturing (license) of D-XXI with Shvetsov engines never materialized because plant was overrun by Nationalist troops. Only the single example machine from Holland with Mercury engine ever flew as far as known!

I recently came ito posession of the attached photo showing a very interesting and quite unique concept: a project for a submarine jet fighter. I can vaguely remember having seen this many, many years ago (around 1960) in the US magazine Air Progress. As far as I can remember it was a Convair project.
Anyone out there who can confirm this? More data will be appreciated!

Different shades of alu are great! I still have this old kit unbuilt in the Lindbergh box of 1967/

Yep, as soon as fuel was exhausted it was noting more than a glider! With its short wings and high wing loading I assume that any landing with this contraption must have been 'interesting'!! Me-163 Komet was also glider when fuel was burned up, but at least pilots started their training on gliders with shortened wings to simulate higher landing speeds before they flew unpowered Me-163 version. BI-1 also flew unpowered as we can see from photos with rocket exhaust covered by a streamlined cap.
In Germany there is still a Me-163 replica flying as a glider!!

Here is a shot of the very convincing BI-1 replica as exhibited in the Air Force museum at Monino near Moscow.
I took this photo in 1992 during my Great Russian Spotter Trip!

Assume you are aware of following:
-colours fuselage and wing/tailplanes upperside standard RAF Dark earth/Dark green; underside YELLOW (as was usual for prototypes). P in circel on both sides of fuselage was also outlined in yellow.

This looks like the export version with Wright Cyclone with short nose as used in the Netherlands East Indies.
USAAC P-36 machines had longer nose with P&W Twin Wasp engine.
