It never leaves the back of the workbench.........

Every so often I do some small thing to the wings--I have not felt inspired to again work on the interior structure of the aft fuselage, however. Once I finish some of the other smaller projects the Fortress will get more attention, I reckon. It's good to have no deadline whatsoever for this build.

To finish my engine saga, here is a photo of the engines for the Zero and Val nearing completion. The D3A2 engine is on the left:

And the spinner mold being poured. This will come in handy for several of the Japanese aircraft in my line-up:

Rather a neat coincidence that we were all working on powerplants at nearly the same time!

Well,you have today "engine day".

I'd better add this little update just to show that I'm still participating.....

On the left is the cowling I modified while we were traveling along with the engine for the Val. On the right is the cowling and un-restored engine for the A6M5. I'm planning on working on "engine day" a bit more after the sun goes down tonight--too many outdoor projects going on right now! Next is to make a mold of the nice spinner in the photo, both for this project and later use.

Really nice job! Here is my interpretation of this bird:

We got pretty close on the old and new leaf colors, didn't we! I was contemplating the markings of CW-363 for mine--I really like the spinner markings on yours.

I also neglected to finish my sliding canopy with the tinted upper transparency--yours looks perfect.

We're traveling right now but I brought my "Japan Project #2" along on the trip. Tonight I assembled the major components together for a test-fit.

Here is the beginning stage of the cowling/engine/propeller mods that I'm making to the kit.

Perhaps another update tomorrow evening from another location!

Many F-84F and RF-84Fs were assigned to Air National Guard units near where I grew up. Many were given to local communities to be mounted in various ways. Here are a couple of photos of some I've photographed over the years:

This first one is at Coffeyville, Kansas at a little museum on the site of the first municipal airport:

Creighton, Nebraska. I took this photo in 1977 or '78 and the airplane is still in the park, well maintained and intact.

Ellen took this picture of me in the cockpit that day--I still had hair then!

Genie nukes?

Yes, I decided to load the "live" Genie into the weapons bay. I asked my buddy whether he was ever around a fully operational Genie and he said that they loaded one in his airplane a few times. LOTS of security around the airplane when the active nuke was loaded by the ordnance crew!
