And don't forget Switzerland! In Switzerland  J-276 was restored into flying condition some time ago.
Swis fighter pilots even got their solo training on the MS-406 after WW,II until the Vampire became available!
See attached photo!!

Combat Warplanes / Unknown Junkers project
« on: August 13, 2010, 11:22:02 AM »
I recently found this interesting original Junkers works picture showing a strange double-hull flying boat.
It must be a project since I cannot find anything at all in the books I have on Junkers.
Plane is on reverse side of photo described as 'Junkers Junkerissene' but that does not ring any bells.
Project must date around 1935-1936 and because of rudder "colors" being similar to Dutch Marineluchtvaartdienst scheme some people think it is a competing Dornier Do-24 design.
Information is very welcome!!!

Yesterday (7 Aug 2010) I made another trip with DC-3 PH-DDZ for a day out in the city of Maastricht.
My wife joined me on this occasion! While we were sightseeing the beautiful city centre, DDZ was used for 3 local flights!

Aircraft Modeling / Re: Hellcat overview
« on: August 07, 2010, 11:55:35 PM »
Japanese company OTAKI, later to be renamed as ARII, had a very nice 1/48 scale model kit of the Hellcat! If still available, it must be some 20-25 years old by now!!
Unfortunately I don't have box artwork any longer.

Aircraft Modeling / De Havilland DH.108 Swallow
« on: July 31, 2010, 11:42:49 PM »
Does anyone out there have any experience with modelling the De Havilland DH.108 Swallow?
There must be at least one vacform kit of this rare type.
See attached what type it is. Only three were built; all three crashed fatally and photos show all three planes built.

I did not purchase this Sigma zoom since it did not couple with my Nikon D70S camera. It should couple according to instuctions of zoom lens, but it didn't and adjustment of my camera will cost me an extra EURO 200 with no guarantee everything will fully work as earlier. It seems to be a well-known problem with  non-camera brand lenses!!
I think I'll wait for discount offers of new Sigma 50-500mm since OS and autofocus must be much quicker than for older zoom lens!

Combat Warplanes / DC-3 flight
« on: July 26, 2010, 09:23:00 PM »
Last Sunday I enjoyed a 25 minutes flight in the Douglas DC-3 Dakota PH-DDZ from the Dutch Dakota Association.
In fact its origine goes back to 1944 as a C-47 Skytrain! Flight started at Lelystad airport and led us over Lelystad, Ketelbrug, Ketelhaven, Elburg and Biddinghuizen.
I can only say I really enjoyed this ride in the Grand Old Lady!
Attached a photographic impression!

I have a standard 18-55mm Nikon zoom for normal photography and a Sigma 28-200mm zoom still from my old Nikon F4 35mm equipment. Sigma is an excellent lens, but 200 mm is just too short for in-flight photography, in particular of smaller planes. For Airbus A380 it works fine, but even an F-16 is too far away during air displays.
Sigma 80-400 is offered for a special prize, but I have already noticed it is bulky and heavy!!

I am offered by our local photo shop a huge Sigma 80-400 zoom with optical stabilizer for My Nikon D70S for a price of EURO 695.
It seems a perfect match for airshow photographing.
Is there anyone out there with practical experiences?
