Warplane Art / Re: Hellcat drones

very interesting, the Hellcat F6F-5k  :-clap
I found this on the web
"A handful of explosive-laden Hellcat drones were used for "bridge-busting" during the Korean War. Apparently some Hellcats were also used as target tugs."
and
"numerous Hellcat drones were utilized as missile targets at China Lake and Point Mugu, the final drone lasting until the early 1960s"

What an excellent shot  :-ok

Sorry Nico she is a PR XIX, here is some history on her:-

Delivered to the PRU unit at RAF Benson in April 1945, PS890 served with 542 and 81 Squadrons RAF, before being sold to the Thailand Air Force in 1954.
It was put on show at a museum in Bankopk, until being sold again in 1999 to the Air Museum in Chino. As part of the rebuild, she was fitted with an ex-Shackleton Griffon engine and the contra-rotating props retained
This had never been done before in the PR XIXs. The fact is, there was not any spare Griffon engines at the time.
She is owned by Christophe Jacquard, in Dijon, France.
The Shackleton engine was removed and she was fitted with a conventional single propeller and painted in South-East Asia Command camouflage.

Attached image is how she looked with her contra-rotating props, I have also add an image of a Mk.XVI

12 Polish fighter squadrons were equipped with this fighter at the out break of WW2 in September 1939.
The P.11 fighters suffered heavy losses. Nevertheless, they scored 125 Kills against the Luftwaffe, and lost 114 in the process.
Later, when the Soviet Union over run Poland, some fighters were evacuated to Rumania and entered service.
When Germany launched it's offensive against the Soviet Union in July 1941, Rumanian forces fought on the Axis side. 5 Squadrons of Rumania were still equipped with the P.11, but they never saw action, they were used for home defense and fighter training until 1942.

Great set of profiles No.1 as always.

Did you know that the Wellington IC was used for night photographic reconnaissance? Two were part of 'B' Flight No.3 Photohraphic Reconnaissance Unit (PRU) formed at RAF Oakington in November 1940.
This PRU had a very short life  - Nov 1940 until Jul 1941 and they undertook there reconnaissance for Bomber Command and their function was "to obtain photographs of bombing targets at a scale suitable for assessment of damage". What we would call now Bomb Damage Assessment (BDA).

The first Wellingtons were:-
T2706 which failed to return from ops in 16 Apr 1941
T2707 Which forced landed at Binsey 17 Mat 1941

They were replaced by R1523 & X3171
