I, personally, would opt for one open bay as you had mentioned. This would draw the eye of the observer to the right side of the machine and balance the national insignia on the left. On the other hand, you could fold the left wing and have the right one with gun bay opened..... regardless, this is a very nice thread to watch.

I'll also look into the gun bay color. If memory serves, earlier Hellcats had the yellow tinted primer and later production used green, but I'm not certain enough to say for sure.

It's been over 15 years since I last built a 109, but with this group build I think I might recover one of those old kits and re-finish them as Scott did.

YES!!!!  :-clapPlease do a restoration project--I've found them to be almost more fun that buiding from a new kit and I think you'll find it just as enjoyable.

Your new ship is looking great, No.1. I may start on an E this weekend if time permits.

How do you plan to weather this winter cammo? Think it should be scratched a little?

I'm not certain yet how much weathering I'll do to the white. On one hand it could depict the airplane not long after the overcoating had been applied, or it could be at the end of the winter season and very dirty. At any rate, the Swedish maintainers kept their airplanes in a nice, clean condition for the most part so I don't think heavy weathering would be needed.

An update.....I finally decided to finish the paint scheme after flip-flopping about the winter scheme for a couple of weeks:

Also, our "watchdog" doesn't like the vacuum cleaner and so she decided to take up the space under my junky workbench. This makes it rather hard to do any modeling! At least you can see the full cup of coffee so I had something to entertain me until she moved out.....

May I suggest possibly a Badger 350? I use one for all my priming and heavy spraying. The best part is that you can simply toss the tip assembly in some thinner and let it there to clean itself between priming sessions. The paint/primer never makes it into the body of the gun so it never needs maintenance. I've used the same gun and tip for decades and it is totally faithful. They are relatively inexpensive as an added bonus!

It looks very good to me, perhaps to darken the Verde on the upper right wing a tiny bit more. 

One thing about Regia Aeronautica camouflage schemes is that there is a huge variation in pattern, sometimes even between different aircraft in the same unit.

Speaking of straight-wing F-84s, I started my Tamiya G tonight. I believe I am in love with this kit....... I've been dry-fitting various parts this session and only find one or two tiny areas that might need filler. What a beautiful piece of engineering this is.

The first photo shows a tiny patch of BareMetal Foil applied to see how smooth the surface is out-of-the-box. A touching up with 8000 grit Micromesh should give a very nice surface for foiling. The second photo is just to see how the wing and tip tank fit. The tank sits perfectly against the wingtip when held in place solidly.
