Combat Warplanes / Re: Aviodrome airshow

It was not really an 'Airshow' but rather a 'Military Weekend' with some visiting warbirds.
However, there was some nice display flying and Aviodrome attracted especially on Saturday a huge crowd that completely congested all roads leading to Aviodrome!
Everybody wanted to see Red Bull's shining P-38 Lightning!!
Retrospectively we can only say it was for Aviodrome a highly successful event....
And Edwin...........don't be shy on your photographic talents; your photos are really excellent!!

I was also there for two days selling books! On Sunday we had a very heavy, but also short shower that came totally at once and unexpected. We had our bookstand outside and it looked we had a substantial water damage.
Luckily it was much less when we moved all books inside and ckeched for water damage I think most books can be saved when dry!
Between selling books I also made some shots, althouh I had no time to make in-flight shots! Hope you'' enjoy these shots!

Nobody out there interested? It is a real bargain you'll never find again!
Next weekend is military event at Aviodrome with expected guest the Red Bull P-38 Lightning.
Also some other veterans will be present. It would be a very nice excuse to come over to Lelystad airport and buy the whole lot of The Aeroplane!! Don't forget to bring removal boxes with you; you'll need some 10-12 to pack it all and of course you need a van big enough to carry the load.

I can vaguely remember to have read somewhere that Saburo Sakai flew in a Zero with radio mast sawn off and that he led his team by hand-signalling.

Here are two examples of pre-war X-boats as the Do-24's were called.
Catalina's carried Y marking and was consequently called the Y-boat.

I can agree that Fouga Magister engine is very, very loud!
Because it runs at very high rpm it produces a high frequency sound that is very unpleasant. And when on our Aviodrome platform both engines are running it is only some 5-10 m away from the public.
We always warn to cover ears or use ear protection!!

The real thing!!
It is indeed an interesting type since it also saw service fitted with a jet engine as J-21R!

Interesting that Blue Angels once flew in formation with the Red Arrows!
See photo! (KLu Airshow at Leeuwarden AFB 2006)

Aircraft Modeling / Re: Ryan ST Series
« on: July 20, 2011, 09:01:25 PM »
As far as I am aware the Ryans kept their bare metal finish even after the outbreak of the hostilities.
See attached print of the wrecked S-19. Dornier Do-24 on background has camo, but STM not though this is land-version. Japanese forces captured a number of N.E.I. STM's and it seems they were not camouflaged at all before the Japanese applied a dark green scheme! Some STM's were still used after the war in private hands. Maybe a nice challenge to use Australian civil scheme, although I have never seen it.
