Combat Warplanes / Re: Bert Floyd BF-2
« on: September 18, 2012, 11:30:11 AM »
Bert Floyd built some homebuilts in the late fifties/early sixties. After the BF-2 he also completed similar BF-3 and BF-4 projects. The BF-2 was later converted into a two-seater with registration N900F. Registration is still described as 'assigned' and owner is a mr. F.Fox.
Just google on registration N900F and you'll get the details!
This is a set of private polaroids of 1958, so they must be quite unique!

Combat Warplanes / Re: Shoebox
« on: August 16, 2012, 09:17:16 AM »
They are from my shoebox! They are all from the sixties and seventies and most are that small 6 x 9 cm prints that were so popular to swap with friends! Image of Pitts S-2A is very interesting since it was the first Pitts in the Netherlands in 1980. When I took this photo I made an agreement with the pilot to make a few weeks later a half hour flight for Dfl 100.-. Unfortunately I broke my leg at a motorcycle accident some days later and I never made this flight!
I hope most of you will also have somewhere a shoebox full of memories from the past and please feel free to add them on our Forum and to our still increasing photo database.

As far as I am aware 'AI' never was a squadron code of the R.A.F.!
Also R.A.F. roundels are not from the period the Griffon Spitfire was operational!!
Lightnings on background are great!!!

UN machines are the most interesting!!

Problem with this kit is that it is a very distinctive 'tail sitter' since there is absolutely no room to put lead in the nose. Monogram supplied in their old kit a small transparent strut to keep the model on its nose but of course this is not a very nice solution!

Aircraft Modeling / Re: What will I have to build this year?

Why Mustang? Everybody builds Mustangs!! Why not a rarer type like Dewoitine D.520?
Tamiya's 1/48 scale kit is of very high quality and this would mean an excellent model just built from the box!

Red devils were much more spectacular when they flew the Hawker Hunter!
One BAF Hunter in colours of this display team is exhibited in the Brussels Aviation Museum!

Hope the kit is still current and that spare parts are still existing!
On the other hand it must not be very difficult to make engine cover from spare box but of course original part is the best!

If Hasegawa has same customer service as Revell it should be no problem to get missing part!
For Revell I have done this several times. They want to have exact number and description of missing part together with Bar-code of box. Got missing decal sheet for Do-217 within a few days!

Aircraft Modeling / Re: Focke Wulf Fw 190 S-8

There still is one Fw 190S existing. Many years ago it was part of the St. Athans collection in the UK and as far as I can remember it was restored to 100% condition. Its engine could run and it could taxi under its own power. No idea where it is now, but I can hardly believe it no longer exists!

Combat Warplanes / Hawker Hunter book is out!!
« on: July 04, 2012, 10:45:30 AM »
Vol. 2 in our Warplane series on the Hawker Hunter was released last Friday.
I can only say it even looks better than our Martin Mariner book but of course the Hunter was a very elegant and beautiful plane while the Mariner was a big ugly thing......
Review on the website will follow.
We hope Vol. 3 on the Bf 109G and K will be released early September.

Interesting that Capt. Humberd complained in his battle report that Zero was superior to Buffalo on all points! Still Zero came out second-best after the confrontation with this brave U.S. pilot! In his report he also noted the vulnerability of the Zero to gunfire and that a single well-aimed salvo from his machine guns was sufficient to destroy the lightly-constructed Japanse plane.
