I feel that we could have the best pilots in the world! We maybe getting smaller and smaller, but the training for a pilot and nav is getting harder  :-obey

I have been looking for a modelm of a Canberra PR7 or PR9 for the past 10 years, Matchbox issued a 1/72 scale RP9 in I think 1983, you sometimes find them on Ebay and they end up going for about £35.  :-eek

"The hottest news of today is that Airfix, in administration since August, has got a new owner. The winning bid, in competition with Revell of Germany, arrived from Hornby"

Read more at New Owners at Airfix

Now we may get to see the 1/48 model of the Canberra PR9  :-tri

Combat Warplanes / RAF Photo Recce Canberra's

I hope this is ok with the webmaster, if not, I will remove it.

I have added a couple of new pages on my website showing the 3 Photographic Reconnaissance Canberras in RAF service, mainly I have looked at the PR9 having been on Operations with them early this year.
I still think this version was the best Photo Recce platform in the world. Well I would say that, I have worked with them for a number of years.

So here is the link, if any members have any comments please do not hesitate in contacting me. Thanks

Great artwork  :-ok

Often maligned as a failure, the Boulton Paul Defiant found a successful niche as a night-fighter during the German 'Blitz' on London, scoring a significant number of combat kills before being relegated to training and support roles.

A bit more information:

No. 264 Squadron was the first to be equipped with the Defiant Mk.I in December 1939. The first operational sortie came on May 12, 1940. On May 13, a flight of six Defiants was attacked by Bf 109Es. Five of the Defiants were shot down from a frontal attack.

The Defiant was quickly moved to night fighting duties, and as a night fighter the Defiant achieved some success. The Defiant Mk.II model was fitted with the AI Mk IV airborne interception radar and a Merlin XX engine. A total of 207 Mk.II Defiants were built. During the winter Blitz on London of 1940-41, the Defiant equipped four Squadrons.

The Defiant was removed from combat duties in 1942 and thereafter used for training, target towing, ECM, and air sea rescue. In this latter role the Defiant was equipped with a pair of underwing pods that contained dinghies. A further 140 Defiant Mk.III aircraft were built; this model lacked the dorsal turret and was used as a target tug. Many of the surviving Mk.I and Mk.II Defiants also had their turrets removed.

In May 1945, Martin-Baker used a Defiant to test their first ejection seat.

The single surviving Defiant, a nightfighter, is on display at the Royal Air Force museum in Hendon, London.

Combat Warplanes / Double bail out
« on: November 09, 2006, 04:59:26 PM »
Another proof that "double bail out" from an F-16 may be sucessful.

This accident happened at Volkel Air Base in The Netherlands on September 22nd.  The jet was an Dutch Air Force F-16B (a two seater).  As they were taking off from a touch-and-go, a bird was sucked into the jet engine.  The engine stalled, and the pilots tried to turn the jet around and get back on the ground, however, they lost control of the jet and ejected safely.  Then, the abandoned jet veered towards the control tower and missed it by less than 3 meters.  The plane hit the ground, then bounced over a Dutch Security vehicle and then crashed into a Protected Aircraft Shelter (PAS).  The PAS has walls nearly 2 feet thick of reinforced concrete.  That was fortunate, since there was another F-16 inside the PAS along with maintenance personnel.  Luckily, no one was injured in this accident.  Plane spotters near the end of the runway took the pictures of the pilots ejecting and the jet passing the control tower.

Hi No.1 :)
thanks for your information, I see your color profile, I think the camouflage is incoplete because if you look at the photo, the brown stains are composed with two differences colors not only one as you have represented in your color profile
I attached another color profile took from "ali e colori Fiat G50, Apostolo editore" same squadron in the same place tirana same time gennaio 1941

Santino

From a person who cannot even get started doing profiles, it still looks go to me  :-wise
