Market / Re: Fokker D.VII Photo
« on: September 11, 2008, 10:18:44 PM »
Hi guys,

all of a sudden I remembered this message and took a closer look to the picture. Definitely, it's not a D.VII. More over the fin and rudder d not have the classic Fokker shape. There is a phrase on the fuselage wich reads "Glück Auf", that in german stands for "Lucky", wich this aircraft was clearly not. Also, it says "Gelsenkirchen" as for the german city.

A true mistery!

Glück auf is the Motto of Schalke04, a German football club from Gelsenkirchen which was at the time a labour, workers and miners class club. But the plane itself is still a mystery to me.

Hi....this picture is from my 139th Aero project folder. One of Robert Linsday's machines. Is that a Spad 13 or 7?  ;)

Where did you board the JU Nico? I see sometimes one is flying over my house. I guess it stops sometimes at Cologne Airport.

Has someone the book: "RAF Bomber Command Losses: Roll of Honour, 1939-1947" I would like to know if they are in there, it seems like a bomber loss to me.

I found the following text for 58 SQN RAF:

Based at St.Eval with Halifax

In April, 1942, No. 58 Squadron was transferred to Coastal Command and during the remainder of the war, as a general reconnaissance unit (flying Halifaxes from 1943 onwards), took a considerable toll of enemy surface vessels, sank five U-boats and shared in the destruction of two others.

An interesting page in this context of Halifaxes:
