There is a little point from my side about the topside colors used on early war camouflage on US naval aircraft. In most known cases, Blue Grey color were present too light and sometimes too grey and actual color is far from this shade, tone and intensity. Here you are sample access plate from Grumman F4F Wildcat, Bureau Number 11985, side number white F-21, from VF-11, pilot Leonard has flown on this machine 12 June 1943 when he shot down two A6M2s, bringing his total to six. Machine was after dumped and after six month of expose it plate was removed and taken as souvenir. As you see, even after that long expose this color is still much dark. Hope this helps...
